  • Fire your audio tech

Ever since you left Golf.com the audio sucks. I have to turn the volume up to the max to even hear JWall who sounds like he’s 10 feet from the mic. This week’s episode JWall mumbled so quiet I gave up listening after 10 mins so I got no idea what they even talked about. Fix your audio.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

What to know about irons, with Chris Marchini
Q: How important is it to know your lofts and lie angles when you come in for a fitting, and how do you educate players about these concepts?
Lofts and lie angles profoundly affect launch, spin, and dispersion; education is key, as many players don't understand how changing loft or lie alters performance, so fitters should explain the trade-offs and show data to illustrate outcomes over time.
What to know about irons, with Chris Marchini
Q: When would you recommend going blended, and where do you draw the line between hybrids and fairway woods within a blended set?
The decision depends on the player's attack angle, launch characteristics, and how well they can maintain ball speed with longer irons; hybrids may be favored when a player needs higher launch and forgiveness, while fairway woods can be better for players who benefit from lower, more controllable spin and consistent gapping.
What to know about irons, with Chris Marchini
Q: What are the logistics of a blended set, and how do you approach acquiring a blend across different iron numbers?
A blended set is approached by identifying the required ball flight, loft gaps, and delivery characteristics for each iron, then sourcing heads that meet those targets while preserving a coherent look and feel; it often involves using different models for various irons and ensuring the fit is individualized rather than applying a one-size-fits-all loft or lie.
The hottest gear trend in golf (11/20/24)
Q: How did AI-One's reception compare to expectations, and what does that say about the future of insert technology?
The reception was strong and somewhat surprising, with players recognizing the technology advantage and its impact on mishits, suggesting AI-One will continue to be a central focus in future designs.
The hottest gear trend in golf (11/20/24)
Q: First things first, how did you wind up as a tour rep, and what's your path to the PGA Tour?
Cody Hale traces a long path through multiple fitting roles, ending up at Odyssey via relationships and experience on tour, with emphasis on adapting to the demands of players and teams.
