  • Life Changing

I had the pleasure of listening to Dr. Kathy speak at the MACHE conference this year and she has changed my entire outlook on parenting. Grateful God planted me in the same room with her.

  • Grandma approved

Although my kids are raised, we are now navigating life as grandparents to 10 with two of them being adopted at age of seven and four from the foster care system. Dr. Kathy offers excellent insight into all things related to raising kids in today’s crazy culture. As a former high school teacher, I really appreciate all the knowledge she brings in an easy to understand way.

  • Entitlement

I have listened to a lot of parenting podcasts, advice, therapists etc. I was really disappointed about this episode. The good things in it were what you shared about Dr Becky’s useful perspective. Your whole show was taking her perspective and critiquing it, versus bringing your own perspective to the table on how to counter entitlement. The fact that Dr Kathy is critiquing someone who he wasn’t familiar with and obviously didn’t understand how she suggests implementing her ideas, is poor taste... more

Understanding The Shift in Teen Perspectives on Technology: Building Identity Confidence in a Tech Driven Age
Q: Do you think that technology for kids today is seen as a captor friend, or how do you think that kids are really viewing technology?
There is a range: some teens view tech as an escape or even a captor due to its ability to alter mood and provide a false sense of connection, while others still see some positive uses. Overall, many are recognizing that technology may not meet all their needs and are searching for healthier, real-world ways to engage with others.
Stress That Builds and Stress That Breaks: What Kids Need From Us
Q: So, what would you say about this research? And how should it help us as parents know how we should provide maybe, like, appropriate stress in our kids' lives so it doesn't become like a traumatic stress that leaves kind of lasting damage, but it actually is appropriate stress that helps them build muscles for future growth?
Kathy explains that stress is a normal part of life and, when managed with love and adult guidance, can build resiliency. The goal is to provide manageable, age-appropriate challenges while ensuring the child feels seen, supported, and not shamed. She emphasizes presence, patience, and a forgiving stance from adults, plus the idea that scars can be a sign of healing when accompanied by sustained care.
Every Child Belongs: Why Love Must Be Grounded in Truth And Not in Circumstances
Q: What are we afraid of with this at the heart of it?
We're afraid of losing something—whether it's opportunities for girls in sports or the fear of being proven wrong—yet the guest emphasizes that our caregiving should prioritize the needs and safety of children, guiding them toward truth with love.
Before the First Bell: Helping Kids Find Belonging at School
Q: What are practical ways to prepare kids to deal with disagreements or awkward social moments on the first day?
Model and teach respectful responses to disagreements, encourage kids to engage with a group rather than sit alone, and practice how to shift conversations to include others.
Before the First Bell: Helping Kids Find Belonging at School
Q: Are there two or three friendship skills you'd highlight for families to work on before school starts?
Yes—respecting themselves and others, learning to ask good questions, and knowing how to sit among a group and include others are key skills that foster healthy friendships.
