  • Cows work for you

One of your best hit bullet point of my first speech cows work for us we don’t work for them. If this ruffles feathers, their feathers are not very secure. Truth is the truth. Good cows are like good employees when given the right tools. To do the job just let them do it and get out of their way surprisingly how good this works.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

390: Mentorship Could Be the Cattle Industry's Greatest Investment with Wes Shaw
Q: Could you take a second to introduce yourself a little bit, kind of who you are, what you do and all the things?
Wes explains that he is a fifth-generation cattle rancher from the Texas Panhandle, studying agricultural communications at Texas Tech, and aspires to be a voice for agricultural policy focusing on cattle production.
379: Grazing California's Public Lands: Partnerships & Conservation with Thomas Workman
Q: How has virtual fencing changed your approach to grazing and land management?
Virtual fencing has allowed us to exclude sensitive areas, monitor animal movement in real time, and graze more efficiently across large pastures. It shifts planning from permanent infrastructure to flexible, data-driven decisions, enabling better water use and habitat protection without sacrificing productivity.
379: Grazing California's Public Lands: Partnerships & Conservation with Thomas Workman
Q: Can you describe how the partnership with The Nature Conservancy began and what it looks like on a day-to-day basis?
The partnership started with shared goals to manage grazing in a way that supports habitat conservation while maintaining productive ranching operations. Daily interactions involve rangeland scientists, biologists, and property managers collaborating with the ranch to align grazing plans, monitor plant and wildlife needs, and adjust grazing based on seasons and rainfall.
378: Understanding Risk in a Volatile Cattle Market with Luke Frantz
Q: What's the role of technology, like AI, in your risk management approach?
AI helps quantify market signals quickly, reduces human bias, and provides a cleaner, faster way to gauge market temperature, which supports more disciplined decision-making.
378: Understanding Risk in a Volatile Cattle Market with Luke Frantz
Q: Can you talk a little bit more about removing the bias and how producers should approach it in practice?
Removing bias begins with having a clear plan and recognizing when emotions are influencing decisions; by sticking to a defined framework and acknowledging that bias may be wrong, producers can stay objective and adjust plans as markets evolve.
