  • Cows work for you

One of your best hit bullet point of my first speech cows work for us we don’t work for them. If this ruffles feathers, their feathers are not very secure. Truth is the truth. Good cows are like good employees when given the right tools. To do the job just let them do it and get out of their way surprisingly how good this works.

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

289: What’s Going on in the Cattle Industry Right Now and Why There’s Bigger Issues to Watch
Q: John, what are the markets doing?
John explains that markets were generally steady after a strong rally the previous week, with varying prices across weight classes and regions, indicating resilient demand despite regional volatility.
285: Weather Cycles, Severe Storms, and the Spring Forecast with Gary Lezak
Q: Is there anything we kind of need to hit on today as far as outlook of weather goes?
Gary outlines the upcoming hard freeze, the scheduled storm system, and the overall cadence of the pattern, emphasizing that cold and warm phases will alternate, with practical guidance for timing farm activities around those swings.
281: Livestock Risk Protection (LRP) Explained: How to Actually Read the Quotes
Q: How do you convert a per hundred weight premium to a per-head amount?
Multiply the per hundred weight premium by the number of hundreds corresponding to the animal's weight (e.g., 800 pounds is eight hundredweight), to arrive at a per-head cost.
281: Livestock Risk Protection (LRP) Explained: How to Actually Read the Quotes
Q: What is the role of the producer premium versus the total premium?
The producer premium reflects the cost after government subsidies, while the total premium is the cost without subsidies; the cheaper producer premium is what producers actually pay when endorsing a policy.
281: Livestock Risk Protection (LRP) Explained: How to Actually Read the Quotes
Q: Why do we use quotes for LRP instead of booking directly off the futures board?
Quotes help map coverage prices, premiums, and end-date settlements to specific weights and life-cycle stages, giving a clearer view of the risk protection and cash flow implications, not just a singular price.
