  • Sadly gone as what it was under Andy Webb

Since Andy has left this pod has lost is purpose and the current two clowns presenting seem to be taking it in a different direction so it’s lost it’s USP. So many better money podcasts out there. I’ve been listening for several years. Bring back what it was rather than a poor version of other podcasts.

  • Lots of great practical cash saving hacks

Andy does a great job in giving information on money saving hacks and scams that I would otherwise be completely unaware of. I like the way everyday stuff that usually aren’t covered on financial podcasts are discussed, like Asos returns, subscription services, all the bank account recommendations, holiday hacks etc. Very easy to understand, all super practical advice that everyone can follow and implement.

  • Guest shows let down otherwise useful podcast

Normally find this useful but the newer ‘guest’ formats have not been great

  • Great, keeps me updated

Andy comes across nicely, more matter of fact than the Martin Lewis podcast who is trying to be funny. I did prefer it before the other lady joined as I never find anything useful from what she says, it's more filler.

The pod focuses on account rates, helpful advice & tips. It has totally upgraded how I manage my bank accounts- thank you!

527 | The 30 year old reason rents keep rising
Q: What could be done to fix housing affordability?
One proposed macro solution is to halve house prices to restore affordability, which would allow renters to buy and change housing dynamics, though it would also negatively impact landlords and those relying on property wealth; the discussion notes need for structural policy and market shifts beyond quick fixes.
527 | The 30 year old reason rents keep rising
Q: Give us a quick summary, James, of what a buy to let mortgage is.
A buy-to-let mortgage uses rental income as the guarantee for mortgage payments, enabling ordinary savers to buy a rental property with a deposit and still meet monthly payments as long as the rent covers the mortgage; the structure supported rapid expansion of the rental market.
525 | The 4 ways money can definitely buy you happiness
Q: Is there a practical takeaway for listeners trying to balance spending and happiness in daily life?
Focus on the four identified avenues—small meaningful purchases, spending on others, buying experiences, and buying time—while avoiding debt and avoiding comparing yourself to others; balance spending with what reduces real stress and increases life satisfaction.
525 | The 4 ways money can definitely buy you happiness
Q: What did the Cambridge and Yale study reveal about spending and happiness, and how does that tie to personal finance choices?
It showed that happiness increases when spending is tied to the individual's personality and the types of goods or experiences they value, rather than spending blindly; context matters, so mindful spending aligned with personal preferences boosts happiness.
523 | Why gold keeps rising - and the best ways to buy it
Q: What are your top three tips if you are interested in gold?
First, have an emergency savings fund so gold isn't your first financial move; second, consider ETFs or ISAs to gain exposure without heavy storage concerns; third, if you want physical gold, opt for sovereigns to minimize tax on selling while accepting a higher upfront cost.
