  • Salary sacrifice

I agree that there shouldn’t be a race to the bottom re public sector pensions and private pensions however public sector pensions as I understand them are not salary sacrifice and therefore both individual and the employers NI payments are made. I put in 15% of my salary into my dc pension and the company I worked for 16%. You can’t expect 50th career average salary per year worked with a minimum of total contributions such as 9%. • Good

Informed podcast, although the dismissive nature that Simon talks about reform is very outdated, shows his political bias.

Bonus episode: The big questions people are asking on pensions and inheritance tax - and the answers
Q: Should I change the source of the money that I use to support my spending in retirement?
The general strategy has shifted; there's no longer a necessity to save your pension until the last, and it may be more beneficial to take from your pension earlier.
Bonus episode: The big questions people are asking on pensions and inheritance tax - and the answers
Q: Should I take my pension tax-free lump sum cash now?
The decision should consider current speculation about changes in regulations, but taking the tax-free lump sum could expose you to taxes on future growth.
Bonus episode: The big questions people are asking on pensions and inheritance tax - and the answers
Q: What can I do about inheritance tax now that pensions are being caught in the net?
It's important to think about inheritance tax sooner rather than later as you have more options, including giving away money now rather than waiting until after your death.
How much do you need to earn to be rich?
Q: Why do you think everybody loves to play around with calculators like this?
It illustrates to lots of people that they might be doing better than they think, despite some potentially discovering the opposite.
How much do you need to earn to be rich?
Q: What makes you feel rich isn't necessarily how much we've got in our bank accounts?
It's how big our neighbor's house is, how much they've got in their bank account.
