  • Problem with information being inaccurate

Most recent episode the presenter materially misunderstood what happens when you make a charitable donation with gift aid as a higher rate taxpayer. The charity does not receive your 40% tax. Gift Aid is a fixed 25% boost on your donation only. Higher rate taxpayers are able to claim the difference in tax on Self Assessment.

This is just one of a series of major errors by presenters who don’t necessarily have any experience or have not researched properly. Not good enough guys

  • Just awful

The more I listen to which podcasts the more I worry about how awful and under researched their podcasts are. The latest one about bank switching if so full of errors and untruths just seemed like 3 clueless wonders not understanding what they are telling about. And this seems to be repeated week after week.

  • Topics are good but the narrative is vague and general and usually finished off with "get professional advice". Martin Lewis gives much better guidance.

Why replacing your bank card might not stop scammers from spending your money
Q: Can customers opt out of ABU, and how easy is it?
Opt-out is possible but not widely available or consistently offered; Monzo was the only bank to provide a straightforward opt-out at the time of undercover research, and some banks require canceling a card to opt out; overall, control is limited and inconsistently communicated.
Why replacing your bank card might not stop scammers from spending your money
Q: What is ABU and why does it matter for card fraud resilience?
ABU is an automatic updater that can refresh your new card details across various services and wallets, which helps convenience but can allow fraudsters to keep access if they control related accounts; consumers often aren't aware of this technology or their ability to opt out.
Will new 'buy now, pay later' protections help everyone?
Q: What role does Section 75 play for BNPL purchases and why is it significant?
Section 75 provides joint liability between retailers and BNPL providers for eligible purchases, offering strong protections against faulty or non-delivered goods, which is a major upgrade for BNPL users buying high-value items like holidays or big appliances.
Will new 'buy now, pay later' protections help everyone?
Q: What changes are coming to BNPL protections and how will they affect consumers at checkout?
Regulators require upfront and ongoing affordability checks, clearer information including repayment schedules and consequences of missed payments, and explicit rights to complain, with BNPL now sharing some protections similar to other credit products.
Why is the government going to tax your Isa?
Q: What exactly changes next April for cash ISAs and the 22% charge on interest?
The cash ISA allowance will be reduced from 20,000 to 12,000 for under-65s, and there will be a 22% charge on interest earned from cash held in stocks and shares ISAs; transfers between different ISA types will also be restricted to prevent circumvention of the new limits.
