  • Problem with information being inaccurate

Most recent episode the presenter materially misunderstood what happens when you make a charitable donation with gift aid as a higher rate taxpayer. The charity does not receive your 40% tax. Gift Aid is a fixed 25% boost on your donation only. Higher rate taxpayers are able to claim the difference in tax on Self Assessment.

This is just one of a series of major errors by presenters who don’t necessarily have any experience or have not researched properly. Not good enough guys

  • Just awful

The more I listen to which podcasts the more I worry about how awful and under researched their podcasts are. The latest one about bank switching if so full of errors and untruths just seemed like 3 clueless wonders not understanding what they are telling about. And this seems to be repeated week after week.

  • Topics are good but the narrative is vague and general and usually finished off with "get professional advice". Martin Lewis gives much better guidance.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Copy trading: An increasingly popular form of investing - is it worth the risk?
Q: Why do people tend to follow the most copied traders, and is that rational?
People follow popular traders because it feels safer and more credible, but this can be irrational as popularity may reflect luck or timing rather than skill, and does not guarantee similar returns.
Copy trading: An increasingly popular form of investing - is it worth the risk?
Q: What differentiates copy trading from social trading in practical terms?
Copy trading automatically executes the same trades as another trader, whereas social trading exposes you to others' ideas but requires manual action to follow or replicate.
Will your travel insurance actually cover you this summer?
Q: What should listeners do when they're unsure about a health condition declaration?
Declare any medical condition honestly on the form; failing to declare can lead to exclusions when you claim, and contacting the insurer for clarification ensures proper coverage.
Will your travel insurance actually cover you this summer?
Q: Are you then covered if the Foreign Office advises against traveling to a location?
Travel insurance isn't usually helpful in that scenario; most policies would be invalidated if you travel against government advice, and you should expect that cancellations due to such advisories may not be covered.
Are you using your Isa to its full potential?
Q: What actually is an ISA, in the simplest terms?
An ISA is a tax-advantaged way to save or invest up to a yearly limit, with cash ISAs acting like savings accounts and stocks and shares ISAs allowing investments, all shielded from certain taxes up to the allowance.
