big 👎 for poser ben wikler. he has been around for a long time but actually hasn’t done much for wi dems. ben Wikler will be the last nail in the coffin for dems nationally if he or rahn emmanuel are put in charge of the dems national campaign. When dems have won in wi it was won by voters turning out and bennie boy had nothing to do with us getting judge janet elected. ben lost us a senate seat every time ron johnson ran. Ben has not done much to get dems elected in wi in general & esp in rura... more

Janet Protasiewicz broke my heart by recusing herself on the maps vote!!! that was the whole point of voting for her. does anyone think a republican would have done that aka clarence uncle thomas. no they would not have. why, why must dems take high road. now is not the time. this is why we are getting our butts handed to us, too polite and too much trying to over prove we are fair minded. arghhh over this.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Capitol Notes: Wisconsin Congresspeople, DHS funding and the SAVE Act
Q: What is the Save Act in a nutshell, and what do you see as its political future?
The Save Act is a Republican proposal to require identification of the polls across states, extending Wisconsin's existing voter ID framework to a nationwide standard for proving citizenship; its political future appears constrained by the Senate filibuster and Democratic opposition, making passage unlikely unless attached to must-pass legislation.
Capitol Notes: A new leaf in Wisconsin politics
Q: What is the status of the veto referendum and the budget negotiations on education, taxes, and rebates?
The assembly's move to place a veto power referendum on the ballot sets up a major political battle while talks over the budget look to balance K-12 funding, property tax relief, and rebates. The latest talks suggest a potential March deal, with the surplus and Medicaid considerations complicating the path forward.
Capitol Notes: A new leaf in Wisconsin politics
Q: What is Evers's legacy, and how has he navigated confrontations with the GOP-led Legislature?
Evers is portrayed as a steady, less partisan figure who uses the bully pulpit and veto power to block conservative initiatives. His legacy is shaped by a stable budget, GOP pushback on transgender, abortion, and other issues, and a margin of electoral support that has allowed him to survive governance challenges, though his negotiating style is seen as a limiting factor in delivering broad legislative wins.
Capitol Notes: A new leaf in Wisconsin politics
Q: What does this all mean for the changing political scene in Wisconsin, and who might replace Vos as a leader in the Assembly?
The episode suggests that Tyler August has been the de facto leader in waiting, and depending on November's outcome, there could be room for a new leadership trajectory or a continuation of the current dynamic if Republicans perform well. The discussion also notes potential challengers within different wings of the caucus, though a clear frontrunner would depend on future election results.
Capitol Notes: A brand new challenge to Wisconsin's congressional maps
Q: What role could the Dugan immigration-related case and SNAP funding changes play in the political landscape?
Immigration-related cases, including the Dugan trial, add national attention and possibly influence opinions on law enforcement and judicial fairness, while SNAP funding changes create budget and administrative pressures that lawmakers may use as leverage for broader policy wins, potentially affecting voter sentiment and legislative priorities.
