  • Love the Content But Too Many Ads

Thank you for sharing your chronic illness experiences with others! This podcast has made me feel less alone with my own struggles. Great topic choices each week.

Unfortunately, I am starting to have a very hard time listening due to the huge number of ads. They happen about every 1.5-2 minutes and always interrupt the speaker mid sentence! Sadly, it’s forcing me to stop listening.

Pauses for intentional ad breaks would be much better! Otherwise it’s hard to focus on anything being said.

  • A godsend

Finally! Some useful advice and community for the chronically ill.

Places like Reddit and fb are too depressing, but this actually gives me hope, chuckles, and makes me feel seen. I’ve been binge listening!

Talking About Chronic Illness Is Awkward; Q&A with Jenna Gestetner
Q: Any tips on how to be more open about the ebbs and flows of chronic illness life with others?
Be honest but selective: share enough to convey your experience, but protect your boundaries and energy by not feeling obligated to disclose every detail or to seek validation from everyone.
How Comedy Helped Gary Gulman Survive Depression
Q: When did you first seek help for depression and anxiety?
I started seeking help before college, during summer training at Boston College, after recognizing overwhelming depressive feelings and fear.
What Happens If Your Doctor Makes a Mistake?
Q: What is the right way for doctors to respond when they realize they've made a mistake?
Be direct and apologize, disclose the mistake to the patient, and discuss next steps and safety measures rather than avoiding blame; honesty tends to support patient safety and can reduce legal risk.
"I feel like a burden to everyone I love... now what?" | Ask Alex Q&A
Q: How can you handle feelings of being a burden to others when dealing with chronic illness?
Normalize talking about needs with partners and friends, communicate boundaries, and express gratitude. The host advises acknowledging the feeling, challenging it with affirmations, and leaning on supportive relationships where care is mutual. It also suggests small acts of thanks and involvement in caring for others as a way to maintain balance and reciprocity.
"I feel like a burden to everyone I love... now what?" | Ask Alex Q&A
Q: What are ways someone with major depressive disorder can cope with being chronically ill?
A combination of acknowledging the mental health challenges, seeking professional help (therapy), maintaining routines, using humor, and engaging in manageable activities (like gentle movement and social connection) can help. It also highlights avoiding one-size-fits-all solutions, recognizing personal triggers, and gradually building coping habits such as journaling, gratitude practices, and limiting substances that worsen symptoms.
