  • One for film fans - and anyone interested in storytelling

    I’ve been a guest of the podcast as well as a listener, which is a real treat as Stu is such a fabulous and super knowledgeable host. The format is great fun and always produces a fascinating Top Three. And Stu’s insightful questions and comments make for great conversation. Highly recommend this for fans of film, and for anyone interested in storytelling more broadly - five stars from me.

Q: What fun discoveries did you make or observations did you make that you couldn't have done before you wrote the book?
I rediscovered several films I had written off initially and also found a number of indie films that I wouldn't have seen without this research, which expanded my understanding of the subgenre.

Q: Can you explain what you observed or wrote about with regards to extreme imagery that made you a leading authority?
I found that I was talking about horror, and at the time when I was writing my thesis, was around the time when the government started talking about the Dangerous Pictures Bill, leading to a focus on extreme imagery and discussions surrounding it.
