  • Such a fun show

Thank you so much for your interview with VE Schwab. It is so interesting hearing about her struggle with anxiety and how it affects her writing process. I learned so much and appreciate the conversation about the writing process happening between two writers. She is so down to earth, would love to hang out with her- glad you got the chance! I really enjoy the book reviews, chats and interviews. Keep up the great work.

  • Favorite talk show?

I was introduced to this podcast via booksaresick. Fair to say I was instantly hooked. So much so, that I’ve gone back to the first episodes with Evan and Chad and slowly working my way through them all. They are so easy to listen to and it’s just a fun time. Big fan of the Friday Forge episodes. If you’re a fan of the genre, I can’t recommend this enough.

  • Only podcast that I look forward to

Can’t say enough good things about this podcast. I’ve been listening for over a year now, and I owe it to Chad and Evan for getting me back into reading after a long hiatus. I have a long commute Monday mornings and always look forward to the Monday morning minute to get my week started off with what feels like two close friends.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Author Interview - Moses Ose Utomi
Q: Any teasers about the new book you're working on?
He keeps details guarded since it's very early, but hints at continuing his exploration of truth, power, and possibly new narrative forms, with a commitment to share more when appropriate. He emphasizes that he will announce or discuss it when ready.
Author Interview - Moses Ose Utomi
Q: How did you decide the work would become three novellas instead of a single novel?
He explains that novella length is his default and that the three-part structure emerged from a mix of practical and artistic reasons: keeping the intense, focused pace, and then expanding to cover broader themes like truth across a time-skip arc, which allowed the exploration of propaganda, power, and deception across generations. The decision was reinforced by the desire to maintain breath and momentum while delivering a complete thematic journey.
Author Interview: Jeremy Szal
Q: Do you have any advice for aspiring space opera writers specifically about the genre that you've been writing in?
Don't be afraid to make it cool. Give yourself permission to push boundaries, embrace the vast scope of space, and focus on character and emotional resonance rather than getting bogged down in exhaustive technical explanations.
Monday Morning Minute (04/13)
Q: If Book Talk didn't take off, what would the fantasy and sci-fi publishing landscape look like?
The hosts speculate it would be less diverse and potentially more risk-averse, with fewer debut authors getting opportunities and less global reach for new voices.
Artist Interview - Oliver Barrett
Q: What's your approach to client feedback and revisions, especially when you're passionate about a project?
I try to assess whether feedback genuinely improves the work and respects the budget and timeline; I sometimes push back when revisions threaten the core vision, but I also try to adopt an art director's mindset to translate feedback into concrete, workable changes without erasing the artist's voice.
