  • Audio quality

I like this podcast when I can hear it. Unfortunately, most of the episodes I’ve listened to have had terrible audio quality on the quests. They should have been able to figure out smooth audio by now.

  • Interview with a vanLier

When you choose to interview Tapper it’s the same as playing with pigs. You get muddy and realize you’re playing with a pig.

Sorry you put yourself in the role of joining Tapper and his lies. Was he lying when he said Biden just had a stutter and was sharp or is he lying now that he wishes he had covered the story?

Many good books out there with authors who have knowledge, integrity, and have done hard work. This book is the product of none of that.

  • New To Bookclub

I listen to Michael on SiriusXM, but only recently found the book club podcast. It is great! I put it on while I’m doing things around the house and just let it play one episode to the next. The variety I’m authors and topics is amazing.

  • Too rushed

Interviews are way too short. When he does actually have an interesting guest it’s over in no time.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Jeffrey Sonnenfeld: "Trump's Ten Commandments"
Q: Why do insults and provocations seem to stick so effectively with his audience?
Sonnenfeld explains that insults work as a psychological mechanism to cut through clutter, create attention, and cue audiences to a clear, simple narrative, which can be entertaining while signaling a decisive leadership style.
Jeffrey Sonnenfeld: "Trump's Ten Commandments"
Q: Does Trump recognize this is his modus operandi, or is it just natural for him?
Sonnenfeld argues that Trump's behavior is a deliberate, strategic design—he uses calculated moves like the 'divide and conquer' tactic and a focus on image and narrative to shape outcomes, rather than acting purely on impulse.
Jeffrey Sonnenfeld: "Trump's Ten Commandments"
Q: What stands out about observing his managerial approach at the time you had access to him?
Sonnenfeld describes a centralizing, project-focused leadership style, with a unique ability to charm or pressure people, and a climate where loyalty often overrides formal authority, creating both rapid execution and fragility in the system.
Mark Halperin & John Heilemann: "Double Down"
Q: How did the Eastwood moment come together, and what did it reveal about Romney's campaign?
The Eastwood moment emerged from a private dinner and a lack of a script, showing the campaign's under-preparedness for unpredictable celebrity ad-libs and highlighting how a single unscripted moment can derail otherwise strategic messaging.
Mark Halperin & John Heilemann: "Double Down"
Q: What surprised you most about the public reception of Double Down compared to Game Change?
We found that after establishing credibility with the first book, more players were willing to cooperate and share behind-the-scenes detail, which allowed us to produce a richer, more nuanced portrayal of the 2012 campaign than typical contemporaneous coverage.
