Super sad story another woman who was victimized by a man and then the judicial system. Glad that podcasters are continuing to bring this problem into the light.
I used to live in a neighboring county to Shelby Cty Alabama. I’m not surprised by the story but deeply saddened by it. I’m also angry at the cop who decided to believe the white girl on the phone instead of the evidence in front of him. Acab for real.
This was not well-reported and a shame for it. It felt more like advocacy than objective reporting.
Deven’s story was interesting. I like that the podcast shared her story while also educating about the intricacies of self-defense with the dynamic of domestic violence. I wish that the counter arguments that came up throughout the podcast were explored more. The storyline and the telling of the story are put together very well. The reason I only give 3 stars is because the episode John, Barry, J and some other episodes have some false information! I can’t tell if it was political or if the fact checker just didn’t actually research! Definitely seems like liberal fake talking points though! Otherwise this is a good podcast!

A hard-edged true crime series that probes how self-defense, race, and gender intersect with the U.S. justice system. Through rigorously reported storytelling and survivor-centric interviews, the show examines controversial cases, systemic flaws, and the human cost of prosecutorial and legal decisions. Episodes often center on questions of belief, fairness, and accountability, offering a candid look at how marginalized voices navigate justice in high-stakes situations. A notable strength is the investigative approach led by a seasoned journalist, with a consistent focus on justice reform and the lived experiences of those impacted by violence and legal systems.
