  • It was a little stupid, overlooking the obvious. But that fact made it somewhat funny and worth listening to. I thought the story could have had a few more details about Richard in the beginning. The demons were a gruesome bunch. Guess they didn't need anything other than the workers.

  • Woefully uneven. There's a good black comedy in here somewhere, but this ain't it. The Good: the narrator is excellent, as is the woman playing Tanya. The sound effects are fun and creepy as well. The Bad: Armisen is terrible. He and much of the supporting cast chew the scenery in the worst ways, draining the piece of all humor. The Ugly: The dialogue editing is a mess. The timing is off and the actors sound like they recorded in separate rooms. There's a bit here to like, but not much.

  • Ehh

Love Fred, but these 20 minute snippets with a LOT of commercials made this drag out wayyyy longer than it needed to.

  • It was a good holiday listen with quality production values. At times it veers a bit campy, but always in a fun way.

  • Eh.

I usually absolutely loveree Realm, but this one fell really flat for me. I think they were going for cheesy in a fun way, but it ended up cheesy in a cringey way. The storyline also didn’t really go anywhere. I think it was definitely a writing issue.

  • Good but it’s no HellMart

This was an enjoyable listen to and has some great voice actors, but it feels like a second rate version of the HellMart Podcast. I wanted to try Black Friday out because I like Fred Armisen and I’ve enjoyed plenty of other Realm podcasts. I was hoping to like it more but it just doesn’t grab me like the antics of the HellMart employees and shoppers.

  • Subscription isn’t the problem

Poor writing is. I don’t know when these soulless brands will understand that it takes more than a recognizable voice actor and pandering to make a good story. There’s just nothing inspiring to the story, nothing funny, nothing sincere.

The announcements over the loudspeaker lead someone to believe the storyline has a commentary on working class life: it does not. Meanwhile the dialogue between the two main characters teases some sort of insight or expression of the LGBTQ+ experience, again, t... more
