Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

"No Faces. No Names. Just Hands — And They Tell Everything"
Q: What kind of post-processing do you do nowadays to keep the images authentic?
I do as little as possible. I shoot to get it right in camera, use Lightroom for a straight conversion, and make minor adjustments like color temperature and texture. I spend about 10 minutes per image and avoid Photoshop, using masks only sparingly to enhance catch lights and subtle details when necessary.
"No Faces. No Names. Just Hands — And They Tell Everything"
Q: When did you get started in photography, and what led you to shift from landscapes to people-focused work?
I started about 16 years ago, initially shooting everything, but I found the most compelling work came from people. A moment in Moab photographing arches made me realize I couldn't be patient enough for landscapes in every instance, and I began to focus on people, which eventually became my main practice.
The Moment Before Meaning: Seafoam, Time, and Photographic Seeing: Boyd and Kathy Turner
Q: What kind of equipment do you guys use when you're out doing these seascape photographs?
We mainly shoot with Canon gear, specifically the Canon R6, and we used three different lenses in the series, with a lot of shots on the 70-200 and the 100-500, and surprisingly many on the 24-105.
Cyanotype/Toned Photographs with Matt Connors
Q: What type of equipment are you using to do the photographs with?
Matt explains using a Sony A7R V (referred to as AR75 in the transcript) with multiple lenses, and notes that great results can come from a variety of gear, including an iPhone in some cases.
Let's welcome Austrailian fine art photographer Tom Blachford to the show.
Q: What kind of post-processing are you doing now on these?
Very little; I primarily use the clarity slider in Lightroom to enhance mid-tone contrast without affecting blacks or whites significantly.
