As an art teacher I am always searching for great ways to bring each artist I teach to life. Tamar does this exquisitely. I listen to her episodes frequently and encourage my senior students to do the same. Thanks Tamar.

I can’t get enough of this! I recommend starting at the beginning- she jumps around in time and mediums so you’re always hearing about something new but there’s also a through line and references to past episodes. It’s absolutely the perfect podcast for people who want more of an art education but weren’t sure where to start. Educational, thought-provoking, entertaining… what more could you ask?

  • Thank you!

The art world has always felt just out of reach for me. I wanted to engage with it but never knew where to start—a textbook? A course? Everything felt a bit overwhelming. This podcast has become my perfect entry point. It’s like being welcomed into a party I’ve long wanted an invitation to. Thank you! 😊

  • Learn something new EVERY time

The Lonely Palette is a podcast on a topic area I never thought I’d be SO interested in, but that’s the magic of Tamar and her powerful storytelling. Her beautiful writing stands out in a sea of podcasts that are less thoughtful and less well-researched. The way she weaves themes together into a cohesive and poignant conclusion is unmatched and I cannot recommend this podcast more — to both art lovers and art novices alike.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

TLP Interview with Helena De Groot, Audio Producer and Sound Artist
Q: How do you balance being personal with making a show that others can relate to?
By leaning into hyper-specific memories and moments, and using sound to bridge the gap between the intimate and the universal, while collaborating with editors to avoid overexposure.
In Plain Sight - Ep. 3: "Go Deeper"
Q: Why modernism?
Harry Cooper explains that modernism resonates with contemporary issues, making it relatable to today's experiences, even if the works are a hundred years old.
In Plain Sight - Ep. 2: "Listen Closer"
Q: What makes that painting less valuable?
The original piece holds historical significance and craftsmanship that the copy lacks, even though they depict the same subject.
TLP Interview with Annea Lockwood, Artist and Composer
Q: How do you think in your work, somebody's kind of whole physicality is going to be affected by the sounds that you make, or the sounds that you record?
I think any listener's whole physicality is worked on by the sounds she or he is experiencing. You can be more or less aware of this, but they're working on your body anyway.
TLP Interview with Annea Lockwood, Artist and Composer
Q: Could I ask you just to start, actually, by introducing yourself and how you introduce yourself? How do you describe yourself?
I'm Annea Lockwood. I'm a composer. I have been all my life with a particular interest in sounds from the environment and our relationship to the environment, but not exclusively that.
