  • One of my favorite art podcasts

Always excellent content and interviews. The Art is present in here. Especially loved the inclusion of Arbus’ high school English paper in the recent episode on her work.

The Story of Walter Benjamin’s Final Days and His Cherished Paul Klee Drawing
Q: When did Walter Benjamin come into possession of the Klee drawing?
Benjamin purchased it about a year after its 1920 Munich show, aided by a friend who loaned him money, because he was not financially secure at the time.
Todd Haynes x Christine Vachon
Q: How did you approach making films that could survive the political pressures and still feel authentic to queer communities?
We emphasized universality over a narrow agenda, used experimental aesthetics to express identity and politics, and stayed committed to telling stories that excite, provoke, and endure beyond a single cultural moment.
Todd Haynes x Christine Vachon
Q: In your view, what defined the emergence of the new queer cinema in the early 90s?
It was a convergence of DIY filmmaking, explicit queer storytelling, and a cultural pushback against censorship, supported by activist networks and a willingness to make films with low budgets but high emotional and political stakes.
