  • Great information for contemporary and historical perspectives on art

I have been listening to this podcast for over a year now and I continue to be delighted with stories about contemporary and historical artists throughout the world. Highly recommended to learn about who is making waves in the art community currently and for a better understanding about the lives of the artists who have blazed trails.

  • Outstanding!

If I were ever to be interviewed, I’d want it to be by Tyler Green, the best in the biz. Unless he hated my work, then I’d dread it. Luckily, he doesn’t waste much time on art he doesn’t engage with. Tyler would also win an “ouevre”-saying contest against any other art-pod host, hands down.

  • I hate to say it…

But for all of the outstanding artists featured on this podcast, the host Tyler Green does not seem to do them justice as an interviewer. Sure he often does some very good research in preparing for the interviews, but he oftentimes sounds apathetic and even bored during these. Sometimes (and I’m remembering the episode with Roni Horn), it’ll become clear that he’s not interpreting the work correctly, the artist will even correct him, but he will fail to be sensitive, he keeps barreling through w... more

  • Please Improve Sound

I really enjoy the content, but the sounds quality makes this an unpleasant listen. In the episode I have on now, the person being interviewed has severe vocal fry (which could possibly be an easy fix) but their audio is such poor quality they keep cutting out. How can you publish a podcast with this level of audio? Pretty disappointing.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Summer clips: Jes Fan
Q: Can you talk about the evolution from those early drawings to the large-scale biomorphic and tubular sculptures, and how materials like glass and porous surfaces play into your interest in surface and interiority?
Fan describes the move from early drawings to 3D works, the role of glass and pigment layers, and how surface—both aesthetic and tactile—functions as a conduit to interiority and memory.
Summer clips: Jes Fan
Q: What does the ink drawing in this work show, and why was using rubber derived from trees that support for the drawing conceptually important?
Fan explains the early studio practice in New York, their shift from drawing to sculpture, and the material choices—rubber from gum rubber and references to patent drawings—that influenced the form and meaning of the pieces.
Denzil Forrester, William Wylie
Q: What drew you to the Eighty-Eight Temple pilgrimage and how did the experience shape your photography?
The pilgrimage evolved from a personal curiosity spurred by a garden-and-landscape sensibility, evolving into a project that foregrounded everyday life, landscapes, and the sense of place, rather than just temples; the shift from 35mm street photography to a slower, view-camera approach allowed for a more deliberate, contemplative exploration of Shikoku.
Miró and the US, Parasol Press
Q: How did Parasol Press contribute to the American print renaissance, and what is an example of a landmark work from the program?
Parasol Press acted as a publisher and facilitator, connecting artists with printers and promoting printmaking as legitimate art. A landmark example discussed is Chuck Close's Keith, a large-scale mesotint that pushed technical boundaries and demonstrated the potential of prints as serious contemporary art.
Miró and the US, Parasol Press
Q: What were the pivotal moments that helped Americans first understand Miró's work?
Key moments include the early influence of Pierre Matisse and the 1941 MoMA retrospective that broadened his reach in the U.S., followed by the 1945 Constellations show at Pierre Matisse Gallery which cemented his impact on American painters and printmakers.
