  • Outstanding!

If I were ever to be interviewed, I’d want it to be by Tyler Green, the best in the biz. Unless he hated my work, then I’d dread it. Luckily, he doesn’t waste much time on art he doesn’t engage with. Tyler would also win an “ouevre”-saying contest against any other art-pod host, hands down.

  • I hate to say it…

But for all of the outstanding artists featured on this podcast, the host Tyler Green does not seem to do them justice as an interviewer. Sure he often does some very good research in preparing for the interviews, but he oftentimes sounds apathetic and even bored during these. Sometimes (and I’m remembering the episode with Roni Horn), it’ll become clear that he’s not interpreting the work correctly, the artist will even correct him, but he will fail to be sensitive, he keeps barreling through w... more

  • Please Improve Sound

I really enjoy the content, but the sounds quality makes this an unpleasant listen. In the episode I have on now, the person being interviewed has severe vocal fry (which could possibly be an easy fix) but their audio is such poor quality they keep cutting out. How can you publish a podcast with this level of audio? Pretty disappointing.

Holiday clips: Dara Birnbaum
Q: Did you have a clearer idea of whether suffering could be portrayed in a way that allows for reflection?
The goal was to ask the big question of whether suffering could be portrayed pour reflections to represent the devastation of our state of being.
Holiday clips: Dara Birnbaum
Q: Did you think of any of that in the 70s?
I learned very early on to develop a strong voice and to develop it from my own self, but not in the sense of it being open for women to enter the video field.
Holiday clips: Dara Birnbaum
Q: How did the similarity between the way the product was produced and the way the product was received come to be of interest to you?
We were more engaged in the structure of what we were trying to do, knowing what the receivership could potentially be but never getting real feedback on it.
Holiday clips: Wafaa Bilal
Q: What is the relationship between photographs and violence or power that most interests you?
Bilal discusses how photographs mediate reality, often sanitizing violence and creating a disconnect that allows Western viewers to ignore their complicity in global atrocities.
Holiday clips: Wafaa Bilal
Q: Were you informed by interested works like Burden's 71 Shoot or a work like Yoko Ono's 1964 piece?
Bilal acknowledges that he was aware of these works and other performance artists who addressed crisis, but he focused on finding new ways to engage viewers without directly challenging them politically.
