  • So lovely

Absolutely lovely, I’m so happy that I found this podcast. I loved the connection made to the Irises at the Getty and then in the bonus podcast learning that he painted them at the hospital at Saint-Remy. A beautiful Van Gogh painting of that hangs at the Hammer.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Deeper Dive: Clouds…on Mars? Insights from a Mars Climate Scientist
Q: How did you come to study clouds, and what drew you to Mars specifically?
Although the speaker grew up watching and appreciating clouds, their primary focus has been Mars and planetary habitability, studying how a once warmer and thicker Martian atmosphere evolved and how high-altitude clouds relate to the planet's atmospheric loss over billions of years.
Deeper Dive: Clouds…on Mars? Insights from a Mars Climate Scientist
Q: What makes clouds on Mars different from Earth's clouds?
Mars has a very cold, thin atmosphere where liquid water cannot exist in the air, so Martian clouds are mainly water-ice and CO2-ice clouds, formed on dust or meteoritic particles, with different formation processes and outcomes compared to Earth.
Deeper Dive: A Brief History of Sleep
Q: Were people just as sleep deprived in the 18th century?
Roger explains that yes, sleep deprivation was common across classes, but the causes and rituals differed, with extensive nightly precautions, religious practices, and environmental challenges shaping sleep more than today's modern constraints.
