  • Sounds like a sales pitch

I was hoping to hear about some interesting technology, but the first 20 minutes sounded like a sales pitch and slagging competitors. I ran out of patience so couldn’t finish it.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Acadia CEO Catherine Owen Adams on Neurodegeneration, AI & Building Biotech Vision
Q: What drew you to Acadia and its vision?
A combination of immediate opportunity to apply my commercial experience, a genuine passion for neurodegenerative patients, and a belief that Acadia's pipeline could meaningfully change lives, especially in CNS and rare diseases.
Acadia CEO Catherine Owen Adams on Neurodegeneration, AI & Building Biotech Vision
Q: What piece of advice would you give your younger self?
Life is a marathon, not a sprint; accumulate experiences and view your career as a lattice of stepping stones rather than a ladder, allowing you to grow into leadership roles with depth and resilience.
Barry Quart, CEO of Connect Biopharma, on Asthma Innovation & Biotech Leadership
Q: What were the key factors in making Connect Biopharma more US-focused, and how has cross-border collaboration contributed to the company's progress?
The move was driven by the need to access broader US capital, regulatory clarity, and to position our lead asset in a way that resonates with US investors and patients. We maintained a strong, ongoing collaboration with our Chinese team, recognizing China as a vital science hub while shifting development and regulatory readiness to the US where appropriate to accelerate approvals and access.
Barry Quart, CEO of Connect Biopharma, on Asthma Innovation & Biotech Leadership
Q: Could you share a bit about your background and the path that led you to Connect Biopharma?
I've spent over 30 years in pharma R&D, moving from large pharma to biotech, where I helped design and launch drugs like Virusep and later led investments and leadership roles that culminated in taking Connect through a strategic shift to become more US-centric while leveraging China-based discovery. This experience shaped my approach to building a company capable of rapid, targeted innovation in areas with high unmet need, such as acute asthma.
Sheila Gujrathi, MD on Leadership, Biotech Innovation & The Mirror Effect for Women Leaders
Q: What advice would you give younger version of yourself?
Two pieces: believe in yourself and remember you don't have to do it alone; build a support network and seek help from mentors and sponsors to get to the next level.
