Very insightful
I listened to like 20 minutes of the "Religion in Ancient China" episode and was pretty turned off by it. In my opinion taking the belief systems of ancient people seriously and on their own term is generally more rewarding than approaching everything with a smug ironic distance but what do I know I’m not the one with a successful podcast ("okay????").
This guy seems upset. He has a strangely bad attitude. He’s going on about how it shouldn’t be called Ancient China which is totally fair and of course anyone would agree with that, but dude you don’t need to rant about it for so long. Make the point and move on. He has an odd defensive attitude that is very off putting, and seems to be stemming from his own poor character, and not having to do with the historical material at all. Entertaining. Insightful. Informative. Therapy. Dwarf pirates and dependent intermediaries. I’ve listened to this series several times and take away something new each time. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
