  • Slow Burn

I’ve gotten 30 episodes in and this has grown on me a lot. I like the timeline format, the references to what else is happening in the war war at a point in time. I always look at the quality of the guests and if he can get David Stahel to appear he is doing something right.

  • Brilliant

10/10 - what the host doesn’t know about this subject probably isn’t worth knowing. I have always had an interest in WW2 but didn’t really know what happened east of Poland. This has filled this void.

  • Good insight

I like this podcast, I’m about 15 episodes in. Interesting range of topics and covers a ( to me) lesser known theatre in WW2

  • Politically Biased with numerous poor conclusions.

I’ve attempted a few episodes and the host continuously inserts his modern liberal opinions, which are completely unwelcome. His biases against the Germans then & the Russians now are childish.

As to the content, the episode of The Battle of Prokohrovka (August 5, 2024) is quite poor. His information is laughably incorrect and relies heavily on Soviet quotes - which were deliberate lies.

The Germans didn’t have any Panthers or Ferdinands at this engagement and only a handful of Tiger I tanks. more

  • Wokey

Each episode opens with acknowledgement that the show is recorded in Ottawa, on land stolen from the Algonquin people. It goes downhill from there. If you seek a woke-cast comparing Donald Trump to Adolf Hitler, here it is. As an added bonus, you’ll be serenaded with little ditties on the xylophone. Enjoy.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Great Race Begins
Q: What was the strategic logic behind the Allies' decision not to press Berlin after crossing the Rhine?
The decision was driven by the Yalta agreement, which anticipated a Soviet occupation of Berlin and postwar control in that region; Eisenhower weighed casualty costs against the political necessity of delivering the prize to the Soviet side and the risk of undermining the postwar settlement, leading to a pause and reassignment of goals.
The Impossible Alliance, Part 1: Episode 94
Q: What surprised you that you learned about Stalin?
My research revealed that while Stalin was a monster, he was also an extremely intelligent and shrewd negotiator, which many underestimated at their peril.
The Impossible Alliance, Part 1: Episode 94
Q: What is the book about?
The book centers on the unlikely alliance between the West and the Soviet Union during World War II, focusing on the relationships that formed among leaders and their advisors.
A promise fulfilled: Help for Ukrainian refugees—special episode
Q: What is the overall purpose of the organization?
The Canada-Ukraine Foundation was established to develop Ukraine's capacity as a democratic nation and deliver aid on behalf of the Ukrainian-Canadian community.
A promise fulfilled: Help for Ukrainian refugees—special episode
Q: Has the Canada-Ukraine Foundation been involved in bringing people from Ukraine to Canada or elsewhere to safer places?
Yes, we have opened the Displaced Persons Fund to support Ukrainians arriving in Canada with various needs.
