  • Existential crisis in WI that yet, needs MORE coverage!!!

Given the title of this podcast, this would be a GREAT platform to have Ben Wikler from WisDems on to discuss the current idea that is being floated thru out the R legislators, and how Ben was on MSNBC last nite on the call to action for WI folks to know about the most current fascist power grab w/ re: to possible impeachment of Justice Janet P. This is a horrific situation, and it needs MAXIMAL exposure, maximal calls for action, etc. Ben outlined a plan to contact the voters that voted for her... more

  • Great podcast!

Excellent info and glad I found you guys! I don’t know how I missed this, as I am not only a WI gal but very involved in state politics, volunteering, etc and I try to keep up w/ WI news & politics. It had been quite depressing for a long time to keep up w/ all the GOP assaults here and I DO feel a recent surge of potential opportunities towards greater democracy in WI, esp w/ the recent win of Judge Janet…I mean Justice-Elect Janet P. Fair maps, women’s rights, climate action and legal weed are... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

2026 Election Launches
Q: What is the main agenda the show wants to push forward in Wisconsin politics?
The hosts argue for a clear, concrete progressive agenda that goes beyond generic goals and focuses on deliverable policies like education funding, health care expansion, and child care, coupled with a robust organizing effort.
The State of Working Wisconsin
Q: How do we translate these findings into policy, particularly around wages and energy policies?
The discussion stressed raising the minimum wage to a livable level, implementing state-led climate accountability measures that require a plan to reduce emissions, and increasing oversight of health care costs and data-center impacts to ensure economic development aligns with public health and environmental goals.
The State of Working Wisconsin
Q: Laura, tell us what are the key findings as the lead author in this year's report?
Laura described three main data buckets: traditional labor market indicators (jobs, unemployment, wages), persistent inequality (racial and gender gaps), and the impact of federal policy on workers, noting that while the labor market has improved for low-wage workers, benefits like paid leave are still lacking and overall inequality remains entrenched.
No Kings 2.0
Q: Tell us about the Rights of Nature legislation and why it matters for Wisconsin.
Vincent Miresse explains that Rights of Nature would grant legal standing to natural ecosystems, enabling protections for watersheds, geologic regions, and critical resources by treating nature as a stakeholder in public policy, similar to how corporations have been granted standing in legal systems.
Defending core values of democracy
Q: Can you talk about where Marquette fits into the broader scene of Catholic and Jesuit higher education?
Chris explains that roughly half of Jesuit institutions would have unionized faculties if recognition were universally adopted, and he discusses the tension between religious identity, labor rights, and the push to recognize workers' bargaining power across Jesuit schools.
