Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

European equities heat up
Q: How should investors think about rates and their impact on European equities?
The speed of rate moves matters more than the level, as rising yields tied to fiscal dominance can still accompany a rebound in nominal growth and supportive earnings; hence, investors should monitor the trajectory and drivers of yields, not just the level.
European equities heat up
Q: What needs to happen for Europe's strong performance to continue over the next 12 months?
Sustained earnings momentum, stabilization in energy, progress on German stimulus with manageable execution risk, and a less tech-heavy market that can absorb fresh capital tied to AI-related issuers without a sharp downgrade in valuations.
European equities heat up
Q: What is the strongest argument for owning European equities versus advancing American exposure?
US equities dominate global cap but Europe offers diversification benefits, a less tech-heavy exposure that still benefits from global AI-driven capex, a weaker dollar that broadens flows, and valuation advantages when rates are higher for longer.
US equities: Beyond the pullback
Q: How should investors position themselves right now given the current macro environment?
Start with areas that have suffered the most, like software, build a resilient software basket to capture steady earnings growth, and avoid broad sector bets in favor of selective stock ideas tied to specific themes and AI-related dynamics.
US equities: Beyond the pullback
Q: What did you find about the characteristics of winners versus losers in disrupted sectors?
Winners are not necessarily the fastest growers or biggest spenders; instead, those with strong net income margins, robust free cash flow, low leverage, and high productivity tend to outperform as disruption unfolds.
