Listen to The Watch instead. They actually do show analysis instead of this tedious play-by-play of what happened. We already saw it, we don’t need you to walk through every scene with us! Verges on the Chris Farley SNL skit “remember when that happened? That was cool…”

  • A rewarding listen for Slow Horses fans!

I first discovered Slow Horses when it premiered on Apple TV+, and I was instantly hooked. That led me to dive into the book series, which I’ve thoroughly enjoyed. I came across the podcast some time ago, but only recently started listening. Wow, I wish I’d jumped in sooner! I’ve gone back to the very beginning and am working my way through each episode. If you're a fan of the books or the show, this podcast is a fantastic companion. It’s been such a rewarding listen!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Barbican Station – Clown Town by Mick Herron – Explored
Q: How does Sam Leith view the way Herron uses voice and rhetoric in Clown Town?
Leith argues that Herron's strength lies in his deft handling of multiple voices and idiolects within the same narrative, which keeps the plotting taut while allowing each character a distinct linguistic fingerprint; this makes the political satire feel organic rather than preachy.
Barbican Station – Down Cemetery Road Interviews – Fehinti Balogun and Darren Boyd
Q: What was that transition like for you in stepping back into espionage?
Darren describes his character as machine-like with no redeeming qualities, making it a fun challenge to portray such a stark contrast to his previous roles.
Barbican Station – Season 5 Episode 6 – Recap
Q: What did you think about the ending of this season?
I thought it was well executed, and I appreciated the bookends, but there were moments where it felt too easy for some characters, especially River.
Barbican Station – Season 5 Episode 6 – Recap
Q: How do you feel River's character evolved in this season?
River is portrayed as more flailing and insecure this season; it's a clear departure from his earlier confidence and makes his final heroic moment feel slightly unearned.
Barbican Station – Hiba Bennani Interview
Q: Can you talk a bit about working with Saul Metznain and Will Smith? What was that process like?
Hiba described the process as giving her the freedom to express her character, noting that both Saul and Will provided support and answers to her questions, making her feel comfortable on set.
