  • Immigration Legislation

Can you tell us whether Stephen Miller approached TN legislators about authoring bills, or did they ask him for help? Either way, it sends chills through me.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Andrée LeQuire: Gallerist and Arts Advocate
Q: How did the Musica project evolve from an idea to a multi-fountain complex?
It began as a concept to integrate sculpture with water and public space, evolved through a competitive process with proposals from national firms, and matured into a three-fountain design guided by community input, partnerships with the city, and a firm commitment to local engagement and maintenance.
Andrée LeQuire: Gallerist and Arts Advocate
Q: Your name is synonymous with art in Nashville, and it's not just your sculptor husband who has the credentials. You've got a background in art as well. Can you tell us more about your early influences?
I grew up in Nashville, was exposed to art early in school, and developed a lifelong appreciation for painting and sculpture through family and mentors. Though I didn't pursue art as a vocation at first, those early experiences shaped my path into working with artists, galleries, and city planning to promote public art that reflects our community's diversity.
Feed Drop: You Might Be Right
Q: What would you do to break down barriers so that states can keep flexibility but the federal government still acts as a big insurer?
Patel and Daniels discuss the rulemaking process as a key lever; reform could enable more state experimentation within guardrails, and a president prioritizing this reform could move policy faster than Congress.
Feed Drop: You Might Be Right
Q: Where do you stand on that issue? Does it work to have money sent to Washington and then returned with conditions?
The guests express that closer-to-home decision-making is often more effective, but acknowledge the federal role in providing a national framework and insurance, with room for states to tailor programs to local needs.
Feed Drop: You Might Be Right
Q: Could you just talk a little bit about what goes on there, about how money is collected and distributed back to the states and what some of the parameters are there, where the money goes?
Daniels explains that federal funding to states has grown dramatically and comes with strings, which creates both opportunities and constraints; the balance is how to maintain flexibility while ensuring accountability and proper use of funds.
