Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Why She Doesn't Feel Safe With You — Even When You're Right There
Q: How can someone who is anxiously attached help their avoidantly attached partner feel emotionally safe enough to speak and open up?
The anxious partner should first self-regulate and process independently, then approach the conversation with non-reactivity, offering information and inviting dialogue without taking things personally. It's important to create safety and avoid overwhelming the partner, using clear communication to express feelings and needs.
39, Retired Military, Sleeping On A Mate's Floor — 'I Thought I Was Unlovable
Q: What would you say to a man who's on the fence about getting support?
I'd tell him to hear my story as a cautionary tale and not wait for catastrophe. Be proactive, even if that means taking a short, temporary break to reflect, and then commit to showing up for real work. Change is possible, and the investment can prevent much deeper pain and loss down the line.
39, Retired Military, Sleeping On A Mate's Floor — 'I Thought I Was Unlovable
Q: What shifted inside you during our work together?
I became ready for change and moved from seeking external validation to cultivating internal worth. I learned to regulate my emotions, listen more deeply, and show up for others with genuine care rather than trying to secure love through apologies or conditional behavior. This shift extended to my parenting, marriage, and ability to love without fear of loss.
39, Retired Military, Sleeping On A Mate's Floor — 'I Thought I Was Unlovable
Q: Before we started working together, what were you struggling with in terms of your relationship that made you want to reach out?
I realized my biggest issues were driven by self-centered patterns—defensiveness, people-pleasing, and a lack of emotional presence. I believed I was unlovable, and I reacted with anger and control whenever my partner raised concerns. Coaching helped me see that my own needs and insecurities were driving the disconnect, and it began with building a stable inner base and learning to listen and respond with emotional regulation instead of immediate defense.
He Found His Life's Purpose — In A Pitch-Black Room, In 49 Days
Q: Why did you do it? What drew you to spend 49 days in pure darkness?
The decision came after a long arc of inner calling and a sense that the darkness could catalyze a deeper initiation. He initially resisted, but a convergence of personal losses, a push from a cousin, and an inner voice guiding him toward a more integrated life led him to return for a longer, 49-day immersion.
