They are definitely fans but they need to have more depth of knowledge to have a podcast. Generally speaking, a good geek culture podcast should have hosts that have extensive knowledge about their fandom, be up to date on a wide range of geek current affairs, and offer a perspective that is more than just the average nerd party line opinion.
