  • Very interesting

Randomly found a link to the “resilience” episode on Twitter. Having had a traumatic upbringing and suffered mental health issue in later life, I found this both interesting and optimistic. I am childless and think that parents and childcare workers really need to listen to these podcasts.

  • Great info

I’d just like to add our son was diagnosed at the centre for FASD in Ipswich, England. With Dr Cassie Jackson. There is a huge wait for the Surrey clinic which delays a much needed diagnosis, ours has helped our son so much, he is 8.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S8 Ep4: Understanding Climate Anxiety in Youths - a Mind the Kids podcast
Q: What are the practical implications of your findings for schools and parents?
Climate worry isn't inherently bad; the emphasis should be on how youths cope and act on their worries. Providing information in a manageable way and promoting meaning-focused coping and proactive engagement can help youths feel agency and hope rather than hopelessness.
S8 Ep4: Understanding Climate Anxiety in Youths - a Mind the Kids podcast
Q: How did you disentangle climate worry from general anxiety, and what were your main findings?
By examining both affective and cognitive climate worry and their associations with functioning while controlling for general anxiety, the researchers found that cognitive climate worry showed a more robust unique association with functioning, suggesting climate worry can be distinct from general anxiety in youths.
S8 Ep4: Understanding Climate Anxiety in Youths - a Mind the Kids podcast
Q: What was the key question or knowledge gap you were addressing with your study?
The study sought to determine whether youth experience climate worry and, crucially, whether climate worry is meaningfully distinct from generalized anxiety, focusing on younger adolescents to understand their specific experiences.
S9 Ep6: Why sleep is at the core of children's mental health - Mind the Kids podcast
Q: What are the main implications for clinicians and policymakers from your findings?
Sleep should be treated as a core feature in child mental health rather than peripheral; sleep-related anxiety may be a central target for modular interventions, with schools and clinicians incorporating sleep education and targeted interventions to improve both mental health and academic outcomes.
S9 Ep6: Why sleep is at the core of children's mental health - Mind the Kids podcast
Q: What makes your cohort strengths notable, and how do they affect generalizability?
The Development of Emotional Resilience cohort consists of primary school-aged children from East London, offering diversity and a population-based perspective; while strengths include sample size and diversity, generalizability is limited to non-clinical, school-based populations and underserved urban communities.
