  • Very interesting

Randomly found a link to the “resilience” episode on Twitter. Having had a traumatic upbringing and suffered mental health issue in later life, I found this both interesting and optimistic. I am childless and think that parents and childcare workers really need to listen to these podcasts.

I’d just like to add our son was diagnosed at the centre for FASD in Ipswich, England. With Dr Cassie Jackson. There is a huge wait for the Surrey clinic which delays a much needed diagnosis, ours has helped our son so much, he is 8.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S7 Ep4: Mind the Kids 'Adolescence and Appearance. AI eat your words'
Q: How should educators and clinicians respond to AI-generated advice that may be misleading?
Clinicians should explicitly discuss chatbot outputs with young people, compare AI guidance to scientific evidence, and use conversations about AI as a doorway to teach digital literacy and critical thinking, including how to verify information with reliable sources.
S7 Ep4: Mind the Kids 'Adolescence and Appearance. AI eat your words'
Q: What surprised you most about adolescents' interactions with AI chatbots in terms of eating and body image?
Adolescents often engage with chatbots as a non-threatening space to ask sensitive questions, yet the information can be both helpful and potentially harmful; the chatbot's lack of follow-up and signposting to trusted adults is a major risk, underscoring the need for safeguards and context when interpreting AI guidance.
S7 Ep3: Mind the Kids - Trauma responsive care - It's all about me
Q: What are practical steps to implement trauma-responsive care in organisations?
Maintain consistency in environments (same therapy room, predictable procedures), promote universal safety and respectful relationships, and ensure organizational structures support responsive care across all levels.
S7 Ep3: Mind the Kids - Trauma responsive care - It's all about me
Q: Should trauma-informed care be universal or targeted to those who have experienced trauma?
Principles should be embedded in practice for all young people, with additional sensitivities for those with trauma histories, ensuring the environment and interactions reduce triggers and support engagement.
S7 Ep3: Mind the Kids - Trauma responsive care - It's all about me
Q: What is trauma and how does it differ from adverse childhood experiences?
Trauma is a response to exposure to events that affect a person differently based on context and resources; ACEs are indicators of exposure, but the actual impact depends on personal history, development, and environment, so we shouldn't rely on a simple sum but on individual understanding.
