  • A master class podcast in editing!

I am not an editor, I’m a filmmaker and this podcast is by far my favorite. Glenn Garland , an editor himself, asks the most insightful questions. Listening to his podcasts , is like taking a master class in editing. I especially loved his latest interview with the editor of Poor Things. What’s great about Glenn is he seems to have studied the films he sees. After listening I want to revisit a film.

  • Full of insights and wisdom on the craft

Full of insights and wisdom on the craft of editing, drawn out by skilful questioning. Creative, technical and collaborative aspects alike. So many episodes to recommend. Two recent listens stand out: Miss Juneteenth (between eps. 31 and 32) and ep. 96 (My Octopus Teacher: Oscar nomination on first production). Two wonderfully articulate and thoughtful editors.

Editors on Editing w/ “F1” Editor: Stephen Mirrione
Q: How did the idea develop to cross-cut between the ocean and driving scenes?
Joe suggested incorporating both elements to convey the internal conflict of the character, making his character much more relatable and layered.

Editors on Editing w/ “Thunderbolts” Editors: Angela M. Catanzaro & and Harry Yoon
Q: Yeah, so what was your greatest challenges cutting this particular movie?
The greatest challenge was participating in the specific details that we needed to provide for Bob's character because he's such a remarkable character in that he needs to transition three times, like maybe even four times in the movie.
Editors on Editing w/ “Thunderbolts” Editors: Angela M. Catanzaro & and Harry Yoon
Q: And how did you divide the labor if both of you were on set?
We traded off by looking at the one-liner and the shooting schedule, trying to determine where it would make sense to break it up.
