  • Refreshing, honest, and non-judgmental!

I’ve absolutely loved listening to Merelise interview a variety of guests and give them such grace as they speak about their birth experiences. From medicated hospital births, caesareans, to home births, this podcast is covering all of the different birthing experiences! Before this podcast, I had never truly considered what a home birth or even an unmedicated birth looked like. This podcast has cracked open that world for me and is scratching an itch I didn’t even know I had! Cannot recommend e... more

  • Inclusive Birth Stories

Merelise does a great job featuring all types of birth stories. While she’s open about having unmedicated births herself, she doesn’t project that bias onto others. I find many other birth podcasts glorify the unmedicated birth and as someone who had an epidural and cesarean, it’s nice to hear representation. Merelise asks thoughtful questions and has such a warm demeanor. I’m looking forward to more episodes!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

A birth center transfer, epic back labor, epidural failure, boundaries, and trusting your gut
Q: Did you have a birth plan for William and how did that influence decisions?
Yes, she aimed to minimize intervention and pursue a center-led path, which later caused doubt when medical signs emerged; ultimately transferred to hospital after meconium.
A successful VBAC, an Aussie birth perspective, obstructed labor, and episiotomy complications
Q: What motivated you to pursue a VBAC instead of another cesarean after your first birth?
Her prior cesarean had been positive, but the desire to regain mobility for a toddler and the belief in a midwifery-led, low-intervention model made VBAC appealing; she also educated herself to weigh risks and advocate for a patient-centered plan.
Navigating deep grief with a newborn, a 52 hour induction, and finding love again after loss
Q: How did Kinsey's difficult birth shape your approach to Charlie's birth?
Kinsey's cervix issue and prolonged induction taught me to advocate more clearly, push for monitoring, and trust my body's intuition; that experience made Charlie's birth feel lighter and more connected.
Two hospital births, a home birth, PROM, becoming a doula and the importance of choosing a care team
Q: What motivated you to pursue doula work after your first birth?
The positive postpartum support and the desire to provide similar continuity and advocacy to other families inspired me to become a doula, starting with postpartum training and then birth doula training a year later.
A surprise unmedicated birth, breech release options, signs, and surrendering to the process
Q: When you were pregnant with him, what did you, what was your kind of thinking about how you wanted your birth to go?
I was working with a midwife practice and was hoping for an unmedicated birth.
