  • Great guests, valuable resource

Love the guests on this podcast. The downside is the host (“it’s your story not mine but” and then interrupts every guest and makes it about himself) but if you can get past that, it’s a very valuable resource as a songwriter / producer / fan of music. Highly recommend for that reason.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 253: Nessa Barrett on Fame, Music, and Finding Herself in Public
Q: Tell me about the day that you wrote, I Hope You're Miserable Until You're Dead.
Maddie contributed to the writing; the session was ideation-heavy, with a raw, believable emotion that shaped the track, and a songwriter helped refine lyrics afterward.
Ep. 250: Niall Horan | Outlasting Pop's Biggest Band, "Dinner Party" & More
Q: When did you know you could write a song, and how did that evolve over time?
He explains starting around 14–15 years old, learning from collaborators like John and Julian, and gradually gaining confidence to contribute more as he matured as a songwriter.
Ep. 250: Niall Horan | Outlasting Pop's Biggest Band, "Dinner Party" & More
Q: What do you feel is the most challenging thing to deal with as things have moved into this streaming TikTok era, having come from X Factor when Twitter was brand new?
The guest talks about staying true to his core strengths, resisting pressure to chase viral trends, and composing music that feels authentic to his voice and roots, even as the industry evolves.
Ep. 251: Myles Smith | Stargazing, Therapy, and The Secret Cost of Success
Q: What was it like walking through the door of serious music making after therapy unlocked new feelings?
Walking through the door meant embracing a more authentic self in songwriting, letting go of the need to chase exact replicas of others, and finding a clearer identity that eventually led to a first record deal.
Ep. 251: Myles Smith | Stargazing, Therapy, and The Secret Cost of Success
Q: So you're going, you're doing these songs. When did you start thinking you could write?
Writing came naturally around age 10; after trying different activities, I picked up the guitar and started replacing covers with my own words, which led to early songwriting and confidence in my voice.
