  • My new favorite

I listen to a lot and I mean a lot of true crime and I love the fact that Kaytie Ring has summarized some very large crimes into totally tolerable 30 minute episodes and I have yet to listen to one that she missed any facts at all. Absolutely awesome!

  • Pretty good...

...but Katie your vocal fry is not only distracting for those of us with misophonia, but is actually rage inducing.

I may have to unsubscribe because of it, and it's a shame.

  • WHY SO MANY ADS?!

The actual content of the podcast is great, but like half of the short episode is ads! I don’t even remember what is happening because there’s a 5 min ad break every 3 minutes.

  • Too many ads

Wonderful storytelling but each episode is about 30% ads

  • Informational

Well done podcast. No mindless banter, no off topic nonsense, she's well spoken and centered. Cases are discussed in order of events in a clear, concise manner. Unlike other podcasters, she seems genuinely interested in the cases and not in garnering attention.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Elizabeth Smart: Her Family Had Already Met Her Kidnapper Pt. 1
Q: The crime scene contamination at the Smart Home sounds like it was a huge problem right from the start. How much do you think that hurt the investigation?
The contamination likely had a devastating effect on the investigation because crucial trace evidence and prints were compromised or destroyed, and investigators could not definitively determine the direction of Elizabeth's abductor. The chaotic scene and delayed lockdown meant early leads had less chance to be properly evaluated.
D.B. Cooper: How A Child Found His Money Nine Years Later Pt. 2
Q: The McCoy connection, same guy or really a dedicated copycat?
The host leans toward the possibility of a copycat but signals that forthcoming discussion in tomorrow's episode might challenge that view, noting similarities yet acknowledging inconsistencies that keep the theory open.
The Watts Family Murders: The Shocking Confession That Changed the Case Pt. 3
Q: What is the ethical concern with the 'read technique' used by investigators in this case?
The host notes that while the technique can elicit a confession, it risks shaping the suspect's narrative in ways that may distort the truth and potentially lead to false confessions or unjust victim-blaming, raising serious ethical questions.
The Tylenol Murders: Why No One Was Ever Charged Pt. 3
Q: Do we think the evidence pointed more strongly to Lewis or Arnold in the end or neither?
The host expresses a leaning toward James Lewis as the primary suspect based on the accumulated investigation history, while acknowledging that neither man was conclusively charged with the Tylenol murders, and that some aspects remain circumstantial or unresolved.
Scott Peterson: His Case Isn't As Closed As You Think Pt. 3
Q: Okay, straight up. Do we think Scott did it or is there enough reasonable doubt here to acquit?
While I remain convinced Scott did it based on the overall circumstantial alignment of the timeline and statements, I acknowledge a sliver of doubt given new, albeit limited, evidence and expert interpretations that challenge some assumptions, though not enough to exonerate him.
