  • Stilted

The guests and topics are generally very good, but the interviewer is either unwilling or unable to engage in an actual conversational exchange. It feels like questions are written in advance and read on air. There are almost no followup questions. As a result, episodes feel scripted and stilted. For examples of what a good podcast interview sounds like, see, for instance, Sean Carroll’s Mindscapes podcast or People I Mostly Admire with Steven Levitt.

  • Appreciate the podcasts.

I have a 44 y.o. son with schizoaffective disorder and it is a challenge to be an effective parent

Any practical physician advice to someone in this circumstance is greatly appreciated. I am a nurse practitioner but psychiatry is not my specialty

It’s helpful to listen to practicing psychiatrists discuss medication and side effects.

    Keep up your good work!

  • June podcast

Devoid of meaningful content. Really a striking contrast from the interview w Dr Kendler, who was eloquent and informative. This one was full of jargon a missed opportunity to something insightful and specific about structural racism.

October 2025: Differential Effects of Ovarian Steroids in Women With and Without Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder: A Replication and Extension of Findings
Q: But are there potential negative side effects to suppressing hormone levels for women who experience this?
Luperolide injections have some side effects, including bone loss and menopausal symptoms, making it secondary to SSRIs and oral contraceptives.
October 2025: Differential Effects of Ovarian Steroids in Women With and Without Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder: A Replication and Extension of Findings
Q: What were the differences between those two ad-back hormones and is there anything to be taken from the fact that the two hormones had different symptom effect profiles?
Both hormones can trigger core effective symptoms in PMDD, but the patterns differ. For instance, 38% of women had symptom recurrence with both hormones.
October 2025: Differential Effects of Ovarian Steroids in Women With and Without Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder: A Replication and Extension of Findings
Q: Can you tell us about your earlier findings and how your study that aimed to replicate and expand on those earlier findings, differed?
In both of our studies, we use the same hormone manipulation protocol, where women with PMDD and healthy control women received luparolide injections once a month to suppress the production of ovarian hormones.
August 2025: Telehealth Prescribing of Stimulants for ADHD and Associated Risk for Later Stimulant and Substance Use Disorders
Q: What are the limitations of your study?
Stimulant use disorders are rare in our sample, and the reliance on electronic health record data may under-detect substance use.
August 2025: Telehealth Prescribing of Stimulants for ADHD and Associated Risk for Later Stimulant and Substance Use Disorders
Q: What did you find?
We found that telehealth prescribing didn't increase the risk of developing a general substance use disorder, but limited evidence pointed towards a risk for stimulant use disorder.
