Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Amwins’ Abraham: London Market Softens as Capacity Grows
Q: What core strengths does London offer that other markets cannot match, and how is AMWINS preparing brokers and clients for emerging risks and regulatory changes?
London's strength lies in its creativity, speed, and dense network of syndicates and brokers operating in one market, enabling tailored, risk-by-risk or portfolio placements. AMWINS is preparing through data-driven insights, investment in AI to streamline processes, and staying ahead of geopolitical and regulatory shifts to guide clients.
Amwins’ Abraham: London Market Softens as Capacity Grows
Q: Emerging claims trends are noted to shape underwriting behavior. Which trends are most influential today, and how should brokers adjust their placement approaches accordingly?
Casualty lines show the most impact due to social inflation and the historical pricing adequacy gaps. Brokers should use data and analytics to explain evolving risk stories to underwriters and be ready to share transparent trend narratives and forward-looking impact on pricing and risk selection.
Amwins’ Abraham: London Market Softens as Capacity Grows
Q: So Nick, the latest state of the market report highlights continued softening in London pricing across both primary and excess layers driven by abundant capacity and competition. How do you interpret these trends, and what implications do they have for the broker strategy and client outcomes in 2026?
The market has softened but capacity is growing, with incumbents aiming to sign on to programs in a disciplined fashion. The focus is on matching capacity at the right layers and leveraging new capacity to offer more creative, tailored placements for clients, while staying mindful of the need for prudent pricing and risk alignment.
Ivans President: Speed, Data Drive Future of Agency-Carrier Partnerships
Q: Michael, can you tell us about some of the key findings from the report and what they reveal about how agency expectations are changing today?
The survey shows carriers want closer collaboration with distribution partners, real-time appetite information is now the top factor in carrier selection, and automation in commercial submissions is a major friction point that needs addressing—agents want fewer manual steps and more consistency across the workflow.
AM Best: US Life/Annuity Industry Continues to Shift More Focus to Annuities
Q: Kate, what can be said about this segment's current capital and surplus levels, at least as it reflects the first three quarters of 2025, and has the quality tapered off?
Overall capital levels remain good, supported by net income growth, but we see some impact on capital quality due to increased use of reinsurance, including offshore structures. While surplus remains adequate, there are areas where transparency and ERM are increasingly important as these contracts are entered into and managed.
