  • Love this podcast!

I love this podcasts love the hosts. And really like the peek behind the curtain of the comedy world. Especially like the comedy hero’s episodes. Only 4 stars because I think it could be shorter. I love the concept and sometimes it’s nearly an hour before we get to that bit. More ruthless editing maybe. Hoping to come to the Tommyfield soon. Thanks for the laughs. 😊

  • ABC - 5 * podcasting

Been working my way through the back catalogue chronologically & almost up to date. Huge stand up fan (Stewart Lee is my all time comedy hero) so adore the format & the glimpses behind the curtain it provides for fans. Extensive knowledge and experience of the hosts provides enthusiasm for the subject matter and the guests. My goal - a pilgrimage to The Tommyfield to see a live ABC show! Keep on keeping on James & Tim 🏆🏆🏆

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

#168 Lindsey Santoro
Q: How did you start in comedy?
Lindsey describes starting with a five-minute set after a comedy course, first feeling fear, then getting hooked and progressively gigging more, with encouragement from her workplace and Edinburgh opportunities.
#169 Rian Lennon (Funboys)
Q: What is one thing you would love to replicate from a past gig or recording?
Rian notes that as an audience member, the dream would be to simply watch from the back, enjoying the show rather than being pulled into crowd work, and recalls a former professional juggler in the crowd as a highlight of spontaneity.
#169 Rian Lennon (Funboys)
Q: Who would open and who would close the set in this dream gig?
Rian suggests Aaron Westberry as the opening act for his inventive, crowd-facing energy, and Patti Arbuckle, Norm Macdonald as a closing figure for their sharp, late-career resonance, with a strong nod to Norm Macdonald's interview-driven appeal.
#169 Rian Lennon (Funboys)
Q: Who would emcee the show in your dream lineup?
Rian proposes Patti Harrison as emcee, highlighting her playful relationship with the format and her capacity to unsettle the audience with unhinged charisma.
#169 Rian Lennon (Funboys)
Q: Now, Rian, if you were curating your dream gig, do you have any pre-gig rituals?
Rian explains he would likely avoid rigid rituals, instead aiming for a calm start with meditation and simple routines, but ends up scrolling on his phone, hoping to keep the energy balanced rather than overloading himself with ritual.
