With last week's best-of show behind us, we've got a clean slate to dive into our favorite new music kicking off the second half of the year. Felix brings a batch of country tracks, while Ana -- to absolutely no one's surprise -- continues her explor... more
It’s that time of the year again: a mix between Christmas and Halloween for me and Felix. We gift you our best album picks of the year so far — and there’s nothing spookier for us than having to choose. So here it is, the music we’ve loved and listen... more
On this week’s Alt.Latino, Anamaria and I both gush about 'Femme Fatale Vol. 2,' the new album from Chilean-Mexican singer Mon Laferte, who is on one of the more amazing creative streaks I've witnessed in a while. Also, Ana and I sometimes unintentio... more
This week's episode is a musical time machine. In the late 1960s, the band Zapata sprang out of a street gang in northwest Washington, D.C., with a sound that combined a variety of contemporary styles: Afro-Caribbean rhythms, soul jazz and the golden... more

Felix, you should be teaching courses at a university, or at least write a book. Your knowledge is much more than AI. If you had a course, I would certainly sign up for it. Perfect format for an online class. I still miss hearing complete songs.
All of the music and artists Felix Contreras likes or recommends sound the same: slightly depressing, a little lethargic, reminiscent of the music your weird cousin listened to when he was in middle school. The cohosts usually have better taste and recommendations, which is what keeps the show going.
I have been regularly listening to Alt Latino for years and I look forward to every new episode. I’m a high school Spanish teacher in Canada and lover of Latin music and the show keeps me informed inspired and grooving!
I actually found alt.latino after I left the US (but I’m not in a Spanish-speaking country), and this podcast has helped me get to know my latino friends’ and my partner’s cultures here much better with in-depth (although y’all could get even more technical, I don’t mind…) analysis and cultural background that I otherwise would not have heard of! It also allows me to see my first home in a totally different way culturally since the spanish-speaking parts of la cultura estadounidense are quite si... more
Hola, I have been listening to your show for a very long time, thanks to an artist friend of mine. I like the music you feature, and your show has opened my ears to new music. Thanks!
I have a little criticism about how some words are pronounced and how you can produce even better shows:
1) the Mexican band you featured on the Dec. 5 show is called Diles que no me Maten (not matan). Furthermore, what you could have talked about was that the name of the band is referencing a famous short story b... more

This show curates a global exploration of Latinx music, blending interviews with legends and rising stars to unpack heritage, borders, and contemporary cross-cultural collaboration. Episodes thread traditional forms like flamenco, norteño, and Afro-Latin rhythms through modern production and global diasporas, often highlighting how identity and regional sounds travel beyond borders. A standout is the consistent pairing of deep historical context with fresh, genre-blurring music, creating insightful, mood-forward conversations that appeal to listeners who crave both culture and sound. Notable strengths include high-profile artist conversations, cross-genre fusions, and a clear emphasis on community and Latinx storytelling across the Americas... more
