  • Un tesoro :)

I actually found alt.latino after I left the US (but I’m not in a Spanish-speaking country), and this podcast has helped me get to know my latino friends’ and my partner’s cultures here much better with in-depth (although y’all could get even more technical, I don’t mind…) analysis and cultural background that I otherwise would not have heard of! It also allows me to see my first home in a totally different way culturally since the spanish-speaking parts of la cultura estadounidense are quite si... more

  • Diles que no me maTEN

Hola, I have been listening to your show for a very long time, thanks to an artist friend of mine. I like the music you feature, and your show has opened my ears to new music. Thanks!

I have a little criticism about how some words are pronounced and how you can produce even better shows:

    1) the Mexican band you featured on the Dec. 5 show is called Diles que no me Maten (not matan). Furthermore, what you could have talked about was that the name of the band is referencing a famous short story b... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

El futuro es Milo J
Q: ¿Qué tan personal es el disco para ti?
El álbum usa personajes y recursos para contar historias que pueden no ser literalmente tuyas, lo que permite a Milo explorar emociones universales sin exponer solo su vida personal.
Jorge Drexler returns home
Q: What did that mean to you, estar acá, estar ahora? Why the motivation now to make a song with this double meaning?
He describes the personal and musical context of returning to Uruguay, the social and community aspects of La Rueda de Candombe, and how the concept of being here and now informs the album Taracá.
Jorge Drexler returns home
Q: Let's start with one of your tracks. Which one do you want to play first?
Drexler selects el tambor chico, explaining its role as the smallest tambor in Candombe with a fixed, mantra-like pattern that anchors the record.
Rosalía in her own words
Q: How does Rosalía explore the complexities of being a woman today?
Anamaria described the album as a deep exploration of feminine mysticism and the evolution of the female experience.
Rosalía in her own words
