  • Changed my Life

This podcast literally changed my life. Back in 2020, I was a naive, ignorant college student that loved animals and was looking for a podcast that covered a species every episode. Luckily I found this one which was exactly what I was looking for, and I was hooked. I didn’t know that I was so blind to all the horrific struggles animals go through. I didn’t know anything about conservation. At the time, I was starting my degree in animation. I would get fired up when learning more and more about ... more

  • Disappointed Ep:215 and False

    Ep 215:crested Porcupine

was such a disappointment I came to the show thinking I found a show that may talk about different animals that I have and learn more, and learn new animals. However listening to this episode I realize that you’re better reading an editorial on things they didn’t research. Half the episode doesn’t talk about the topic of Crested Porcupine, instead talking about desert which I know is habitat but too much about stuff other than topic at hand. THEN she starts talking abou... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Wildlife CSI: Dr. Greg Simpson on Fighting Wildlife Crime with Forensics
Q: Where can listeners learn more or get involved with Wildlife Forensic Academy?
Listeners can visit wildlifeForensicAcademy.com for online courses and in-person short courses in Cape Town, with a foundation in the US to fund ranger training; the organization also supports international participants through grants.
Wildlife CSI: Dr. Greg Simpson on Fighting Wildlife Crime with Forensics
Q: Can you talk about the legal side and how training for courtroom testimony works at the academy?
The academy emphasizes courtroom readiness, including chain of custody, evidence handling, and the ability to present findings in a courtroom setting; a dedicated advocate with environmental crimes experience heads the courtroom scenario to teach how laws differ by country and how to adapt the approach for prosecution.
Wildlife CSI: Dr. Greg Simpson on Fighting Wildlife Crime with Forensics
Q: What's the trend right now with wildlife crime around the world?
The trend is hard to generalize, but initially during COVID there was a quiet period with less movement and trade; since then, activity has picked up again, and many countries have cut back on enforcement funding even as biodiversity protection becomes more recognized.
The Wisdom of Trees: What Forests Can Teach Humanity
Q: What does the phrase tree thinking mean in practical terms for how we view the world?
Tree thinking reframes our understanding of life as a branching, interconnected system rather than a straight ladder; it encourages considering multiple directions, recognizing relatedness among species, and applying that relational view to areas beyond evolution, such as culture, behaviors, and environmental policy.
Meerkats: The Tiny Sentinels Guarding the Desert (Revisited)
Q: What is the primary social structure of meerkat groups?
Meerkat social systems revolve around a dominant breeding pair with cooperative care from non-breeding individuals, including babysitting and sentinel duties, which together help the group survive in harsh desert environments.
