  • This is a winner

Recently did a road trip through New Mexico with three generations (ages 6 to 71). This was a winner for the whole gang, and it was so fun to learn as we drove. Caves! Lizards! Thank you so much for making something that was safe for all ages but not childish.

  • Love it

The best podcast for kids- my kids are obsessed with literally every episode.

Just as an FYI, some ads are NOT β€œG” rated. There are two ads that are playing at the very beginning of the episode; the first is about condoms, followed by an ad about addiction. Seems like the ad content should be considered

  • Best podcast

I love the podcast but my friends have a different opinion on it that it’s just two people talking about something stupid

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

ROCKS with Schmitty Thompson
Q: What is a rock, and how does it differ from a mineral?
A rock is a broad earth material made of minerals, whereas a mineral is a crystalline chemical compound that forms under natural conditions; rocks can be composed of one mineral or a combination of many minerals.
SQUIRRELS with Karen Munroe
Q: Do flying squirrels fluoresce?
Yes, there are species of flying squirrels with fluorescence in their fur, a recent topic of study discussed in the episode.
JELLYFISH with Rebecca Helm
Q: What is the exact structure at the top of the jellyfish's umbrella called?
The structure is called mesoglea, a cartilage-like, jelly-like layer without cells, providing a supportive matrix rather than a solid organ.
BASKET WEAVING with James C. Bamba
Q: How do you make baskets watertight using natural materials?
Watertightness comes from sizing the leaves, ensuring uniform width, weaving at a consistent 45-degree angle, and tightening the weave as the leaves wilt and dry, then re-tightening before final drying so gaps are minimized and can seal in moisture.
CAROB with Megan Lynch
Q: When buying Carob, how does one pick out the quality Carob? Are there different types as found in chocolate?
Quality carob should be naturally sweet with pods that are flavorful and not overly processed; look for varieties with good flavor and minimal added sugars, and consider using carob powder or molasses as flexible substitutes to chocolate in recipes.
