  • This is a winner

Recently did a road trip through New Mexico with three generations (ages 6 to 71). This was a winner for the whole gang, and it was so fun to learn as we drove. Caves! Lizards! Thank you so much for making something that was safe for all ages but not childish.

  • Love it

The best podcast for kids- my kids are obsessed with literally every episode.

Just as an FYI, some ads are NOT β€œG” rated. There are two ads that are playing at the very beginning of the episode; the first is about condoms, followed by an ad about addiction. Seems like the ad content should be considered

  • Best podcast

I love the podcast but my friends have a different opinion on it that it’s just two people talking about something stupid

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

ATLATLS with Angelo Robledo
Q: Could children have used atlattles, and is there evidence of kid-sized weapons?
Evidence from Oregon shows child-sized atlattles existed; some workshops with children demonstrate that kids can throw effectively, and historical examples include whale-bone child-sized atlattles.
ATLATLS with Angelo Robledo
Q: What are the ethics and protocols if you find an arrowhead on a walk?
He advises to generally leave arrowheads where found due to archaeological context data; if collected, GPS coordinates and context are essential for researchers, and reporting to state historic preservation offices is recommended.
ATLATLS with Angelo Robledo
Q: If I wanted to make one of these, how would I go about it? And is that a good idea or a terrible one?
Angelo explains that atlatls are easier to make than bows and arrows, with the dart being the harder part; practical guidance includes using simple materials and focusing on making a flexible, properly weighted dart rather than a traditional stone tip for basic practice.
ROCKS with Schmitty Thompson
Q: What is a rock, and how does it differ from a mineral?
A rock is a broad earth material made of minerals, whereas a mineral is a crystalline chemical compound that forms under natural conditions; rocks can be composed of one mineral or a combination of many minerals.
SQUIRRELS with Karen Munroe
Q: Do flying squirrels fluoresce?
Yes, there are species of flying squirrels with fluorescence in their fur, a recent topic of study discussed in the episode.
