Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Gourab Banerji, SA
Q: How did you decide to move back to India after studying in the UK?
I weighed family considerations, financial constraints, and the reality that the Supreme Court and top Indian cases would still define my career; I chose to return at 21 because I believed I could build a meaningful practice in India despite the challenges.
The Rt Hon. the Lord Neuberger of Abbotsbury
Q: Did you ever consider a different path after the third rejection from chambers, or was it always your plan to push forward in law?
Despite setbacks, he describes a stubborn persistence and a belief in his own potential, choosing to persevere toward silk and eventually toward the bench rather than returning to banking.
1988: Reunion of the Advocates (Part 2)
Q: What was the feeling among the lawyers regarding the tribunal's reactions?
We expected Justice Yobsani would refuse to recuse himself due to the previous tribunal's dismissals of similar applications.
1988: Reunion of the Advocates (Part 2)
Q: How was it for you to assist Tan Sri Yusof?
I was tasked to assist Tan Sri Yusof as he wanted to act in person, so we had to assemble a team to support him.
1988: Reunion of the Advocates (Part 2)
Q: Can you tell us how this team came about?
The late Dato Peter Muni was first approached because he was one of the most senior and eminent lawyers, but he didn't take on the task. Then, I got a call from the late Wan Sulayman to gather a local team.
