  • Great Subjects But Needs Some Improvement

Acres USA and its conference archives has an incredible wealth of ecological and sustainable agriculture knowledge! Some of which has been shared on this podcast. Cannot wait for the next broadcast.

Yet, the voice quality and volume has been at times sub-par. You control the volume in production and yet the introductions and wrap-ups can be low or too loud compared to the rest of the broadcast.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Gary Zimmer: Intro to Biological Farming Ep. 88
Q: What do herbicides do to soil life?
Herbicides can negatively affect soil life by creating an impediment to biological activity; they might kill beneficial organisms which are crucial for a healthy soil environment.
Gary Zimmer: Intro to Biological Farming Ep. 88
Q: Can you tell me, explain to me why you're putting the rye after the bean stubble and not rye after the corn stalks?
Rye is planted after beans because it allows for better nutrient uptake while avoiding competition with the corn. It also promotes a healthy soil biology that would support the next crop better than if planted after corn.
Innovative Water Management and Regenerative Farming: Insights from RAD and Cedar Springs Farms Ep. 82
Q: How do you manage water for your cattle?
I either allow them drinking like alleys to get to the ponds to drink out of the ponds or I run water in a swale below where they're grazing.
Innovative Water Management and Regenerative Farming: Insights from RAD and Cedar Springs Farms Ep. 82
Q: What did you do to manage the erosion gully on your property?
I started in the very top where it enters the property and where I knew I'd be at a higher elevation than everywhere else. So I dammed it up and I made what's called a stock pond.
Innovative Water Management and Regenerative Farming: Insights from RAD and Cedar Springs Farms Ep. 82
Q: What was your experience with farming before you moved to Colorado?
I started off in New England working on mostly dairy farms and mostly around livestock when I was a kid... I moved to Colorado and started a dairy farm on the front range outside of Boulder.
