I used to really enjoy this podcast. The guests always seemed engaged with the content of the movies they had chosen but now the podcast is just another plug fest for whatever the guest is pushing in that moment. Final straw has to be the latest episode with Nick M. A 27 minute podcast of which around five or six minutes maximum was spent talking about the movie “Clue”. Everything else was just his agenda or his publicist’s agenda. I hope the podcast get back on track but for me, it’s a sad fare... more

  • Laughed like a drain!

As always, the 90 Minutes or Less Film Fest deliver insightful, lighthearted and humour-filled episodes filled with fascinating observations. The Edgar Wright episode in particular gave me a huge list of films to add to the watchlist, and the chemistry between the filmmaker and host Sam is a joy to listen to. Like catching up with old mates with every episode. Highly recommended!

  • Love the pod!

An ingenius concept which I could not recommend highly enough. Films have, more than often, no right being more than 2 hours long, yet studios believe the audiences want this! Chuck in ads and trailers and you have one sore bum!

Sam’s choice of films is diverse, enjoyable and guests of the highest calibre. Great pod!

Ugo Bienvenu on Arco | Spotlight
Q: What's your perspective on audience engagement and the role of imagination in animation?
Imagination is the essential power; audience involvement is critical, and allowing gaps or ambiguities lets viewers participate in the storytelling, expanding the perceived scope beyond the literal on-screen action.
Ugo Bienvenu on Arco | Spotlight
Q: How did financing evolve, and what role did collaborations with Natalie Portman and Sophie Mass play?
Financing grew out of necessity after early skepticism; Portman and Mass stepped in after seeing the animatic, providing support to defend the core idea and fund the remaining animation work, which helped unlock the rest of the production.
Ugo Bienvenu on Arco | Spotlight
Q: What was the first major deadline or constraint you set for Arco, and how did it shape the project?
The goal was to target a 90-minute classical length from the very start, which guided the script, storyboard, and animatic process; this constraint pushed the team to condense storytelling and focus on essential moments that carry emotional weight.
Pee-wee's Big Adventure with Phil Lord and Christopher Miller
Q: If I was to say to you guys, OK, well, I've got a print of Pee-wee's Big Adventure. We can put it on in any theater. You guys can curate the film screening. Is there any way you would like to show this film?
They imagine a drive-in or a garage/home-theater screening, emphasizing a screening space that fits Pee-wee's quirky, community-driven energy and the film's intimate yet adventurous spirit.
The 10th Victim with Edgar Wright
Q: What about the technical side—the locations, production design, and restoration—stood out to you?
The use of Rome and New York locations, the bold production design, and the restoration that brought out bold color and sharp visuals, making the film feel ahead of its time and crucial in understanding how to craft futuristic atmospheres with contemporary architecture.
