  • My go-to podcast…

For smart conversations about politics and current events. I like Larry and Kevin much more than the previous co-hosts.

  • Good show not timely

Showing one star to get your attention. Love the content and guests. I get it too late in my apple podcast feed and in these fast moving times, most of the analysis feels outdated.

  • Chronic audio issues

Like the show. For some reason Mark your audio levels are chronically low, and I have to strain to hear you sometimes while listening during my morning workout. Alternatively your guests are always loud and clear, as are the clips you play. Time for a sound engineer! Thanks, LJW

  • Good US coverage; could have been great

(Updated: Unfortunately, despite liking Mark Halperin, it is just impossible to become a regular listener when some of the guests, either left or right, are simply ridiculous and deeply partisan talking heads (eg Bill de Blasio, one of the worst and most disliked mayors in NYC’s history?). These apparatchiks might as well be party spokespeople. This is a recurrent issue, and I’m sorry to say I’ve finally given up. I’ve left my original review below, as it largely still applies to the show.)

  • Good overall & commendably clear-eyed.

Generally quite fair and open-minded – certainly much more so than mainstream media like our embarrassingly woeful BBC – and Mark’s sense of humour is a welcome bonus. I appreciate the podcast’s more equanimous insight into American politics, around which there’s far too much immature hysteria these days, not least here in Europe. Admirably, Mark is better able than most to coldly separate the merits and demerits of political policy from Trump himself, whatever one may think of the most media-sa... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Trump Summons His Cabinet to the White House Amid Tense Talks With Iran: Will U.S. Bombing Resume?
Q: Jose, how should campaigns balance personal background controversies with messaging on policy issues in a tough race?
The consensus is that campaigns often focus on tangible achievements and policy differences, while acknowledging that voters may process personal history differently in a media-saturated environment.
Trump Summons His Cabinet to the White House Amid Tense Talks With Iran: Will U.S. Bombing Resume?
Q: Jack, what should be the standard for health disclosures for presidential candidates and presidents, and should doctors answer questions from the press?
The panel leans toward recommending some level of disclosure but doubts a universal requirement; there is skepticism about the value of journalists asking doctors questions, with emphasis on transparency balanced against political narratives.
"In Christ There Is Neither Male Nor Female": Talarico Tries To Clarify His "God Is Nonbinary" Gaffe
Q: In 2021, in a speech during debate over transgender issues, you said, God is non-binary. What did you mean by that?
I was being provocative; the point was that God can't be defined by human gender categories, emphasizing a stance that God is beyond binary gender definitions.
Trump: "I Fully Agree" with China's President Xi That U.S. Was Declining Under Biden. That's Changed
Q: Based on the Maine event, how did the Vice President perform in front of a crowd?
Most panelists felt the Maine appearance was not a strong moment; it wasn't a disaster, but it failed to deliver a clear, dynamic narrative and undermined perceived readiness for higher office.
Trump Makes Triumphal Entrance in China as JD Vance Comments on "Apprentice" Competition With Rubio
Q: What is the likelihood that the White House could leverage China to press Iran on its nuclear ambitions?
The panel suggests there is some potential for China to influence Iran's calculations, given its energy ties and economic stakes, but agrees that any agreement would depend on a complex balance of incentives and domestic pressures in both countries.
