  • My go-to podcast…

For smart conversations about politics and current events. I like Larry and Kevin much more than the previous co-hosts.

  • Good show not timely

Showing one star to get your attention. Love the content and guests. I get it too late in my apple podcast feed and in these fast moving times, most of the analysis feels outdated.

  • Chronic audio issues

Like the show. For some reason Mark your audio levels are chronically low, and I have to strain to hear you sometimes while listening during my morning workout. Alternatively your guests are always loud and clear, as are the clips you play. Time for a sound engineer! Thanks, LJW

  • Good US coverage; could have been great

(Updated: Unfortunately, despite liking Mark Halperin, it is just impossible to become a regular listener when some of the guests, either left or right, are simply ridiculous and deeply partisan talking heads (eg Bill de Blasio, one of the worst and most disliked mayors in NYC’s history?). These apparatchiks might as well be party spokespeople. This is a recurrent issue, and I’m sorry to say I’ve finally given up. I’ve left my original review below, as it largely still applies to the show.)

  • Good overall & commendably clear-eyed.

Generally quite fair and open-minded – certainly much more so than mainstream media like our embarrassingly woeful BBC – and Mark’s sense of humour is a welcome bonus. I appreciate the podcast’s more equanimous insight into American politics, around which there’s far too much immature hysteria these days, not least here in Europe. Admirably, Mark is better able than most to coldly separate the merits and demerits of political policy from Trump himself, whatever one may think of the most media-sa... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Democratic Establishment Comes Out in Force Against El-Sayed as Michigan Gov. Endorses Haley Stevens
Q: What does the Whitmer endorsement mean for Haley Stevens in Michigan?
It signals establishment support and could influence voters who weigh endorsements, highlighting Stevens as the candidate favored by Democratic leadership to win in November.
Democrats' Blame Game Rages Over Platner Fiasco as Key Platner Strategist Says He's "Disappointed"
Q: Two questions for you both and then they'll segue right into what Yemisi just raised. Without knowing the Maine nominee yet, would you say Democrat chances are the same, better, or worse making a swap?
Steve suggests roughly the same odds due to Platner's ability to cut both ways, while Yemisi and the panel align that the race remains tough but could hinge on how Platner's exit reshapes voter alignment and party unity.
"Opposition Research" Will Drop on New Maine Democratic Pick Troy Jackson: "He's Totally Untested"
Q: Is Jackson truly unvetted, and what would it take to derail his candidacy?
The guests acknowledge the unvetted label as a real risk; they emphasize that ongoing reporting, scrutiny of past actions (like temper-related incidents), and the way opponents package these findings will determine whether his candidacy derails or endures.
"Regime Change" Co-Author Jonathan Swan Takes Us Inside the Trump Administration, Answers Viewer ?'s
Q: Given the imperial presidency framing, what is the most outrageous thing you think Trump could do in the next two years?
Swan refrains from predicting specific outrageous acts, but discusses ongoing foreign policy reorientations, particularly toward Cuba, and the broader pattern of unilateral moves that characterize the era.
"Regime Change" Co-Author Jonathan Swan Takes Us Inside the Trump Administration, Answers Viewer ?'s
Q: What's something in the book that hasn't come up in any interview that you think is interesting or newsworthy?
Swan points to chapters and scenes that reveal the behind-the-scenes dynamics, including the emotional and political reverberations of key figures like Charlie Kirk, and how individual relationships shaped decisions in the White House and the Trump campaign.
