  • This Is Massive

Became aware of this podcast at the start of August 2025 when a mate of mine who plays in a Split Enz tribute band tipped me off that one of their covers had been featured in an episode. A mere 27 days later, I’ve hoovered up all 70-odd available episodes! A thoroughly enjoyable, entertaining and informative hour or so every couple of weeks from Chris and his very knowledgeable chums.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep 85 - Crispy Band (Crowded House, Palais Theatre Melbourne, 29 Oct 2025)
Q: What was the overall vibe of the Palais shows compared to other Crowded House venues?
The Palais sit-down format created a more intimate, relaxed atmosphere that allowed new songs to land differently, with a slower build and less immediate crowd energy than the outdoor or arena sets, while still delivering a strong impact and crowd engagement for the hits.
Ep 92 - ENZ TO END (Split Enz - Frenzy)
Q: What is the first track on Frenzy in the 2006 remixed version?
The group notes that Give It a World is the opening track on the 2006 remixed Frenzy, with I See Red often listed as track one on some editions but not in the actual order of the 2006 remix.
Ep 82 - Losing Blood & Getting More & More Remote (Crowded House Melbourne, 2 Dec 2008, pt 2/2)
Q: Was the upstairs balcony actually open during the show?
No, the balcony was closed off; the host and guests discuss Neil's memory of the balcony and confirm it was not open, which led to the audience Q&A.
Ep 82 - Losing Blood & Getting More & More Remote (Crowded House Melbourne, 2 Dec 2008, pt 2/2)
Q: Hello, what is the audience's most memorable moment of the night so far?
The speakers highlight the spontaneous Private Universe jam where random audience members joined in, transforming an unrehearsed moment into a remarkable collaboration that emphasized the band's versatility and the crowd's enthusiasm.
Ep 90 - Parallel Universe Theory (Nick Seymour at Allans Music Melbourne 14 March 2017)
Q: How do Nick's bass lines develop—improvisation vs. written parts?
They're a mix of improvisation and structured parts learned in rehearsals; much of the magic happens when jam-derived ideas are refined with the top lines Neil brought in, balancing spontaneity with defined song structure.
