  • Great chemistry

As someone who doesn’t work in HR, but is interested in topics that affect us all and that can help improve work environments and relationships, both hosts come across as my genuine “friends” in HR - speaking clearly, having great chemistry, radiating positivity and humor, and sharing interesting opinions and relevant information.

Also, bonus points for weaving in pop-culture references in the first two episodes, including Wu Tang, 50 Shades of Grey, and Back to the Future.

Creating Meaningful Community in the Workplace w/ DeMario Bell
Q: What advice would you give for being intentional about building community on your team?
Model the behavior you want to see and create a vision for community. Include team members in discussions about what community means to them and co-create that experience.
Creating Meaningful Community in the Workplace w/ DeMario Bell
Q: What role do you think vulnerability plays in building trust and community in the workplace and among teams?
Vulnerability is crucial as it allows trust to develop. Sharing personal experiences fosters connection, and for vulnerability to work, it has to be safe and not weaponized.
Creating Meaningful Community in the Workplace w/ DeMario Bell
Q: What are some frequent missteps that you see organizations making when they're trying to build community, and how can they avoid it?
Organizations often assume shared experiences among racial or ethnic identities, leading to tokenism. They also mistakenly believe community must be large or expensive to be effective, and they tend to treat employees like children instead of adults, failing to communicate openly and honestly.
The Doors You Can Open: Unlocking Opportunity Through Sponsorship at Work w/ Rosalind Chow
Q: What are three ways that you think people can consider getting into sponsorship?
One, share someone's good news; two, be mindful of opportunities where you control participation; three, actively promote others' achievements.
The Doors You Can Open: Unlocking Opportunity Through Sponsorship at Work w/ Rosalind Chow
Q: What do you think is one of the biggest misconceptions when you talk about sponsorship?
The main misconception is that it is the same as mentorship, but they are categorically different behaviors; mentors talk to you, while sponsors talk about you.
