  • Ladies…what’s have you been all my life ?

As a homeschool parent of an only I’m always on the hunt for good books in which we can lose ourselves. Suddenly today I found myself in an empty house and was scrolling through podcasts when out of the blue…..you appeared !! WOW 🙃 I have binged 20 episodes while pottering around, discovered a new to us author who totally talks to my son and that author is Mark Greenwood. I spent way too much money buying your suggestions 🤣 but in all seriousness, I’m so excited to have found you both and I lo... more

  • Librarians, Teacher tips and Books recomendations, Oh my!

I have been listening to YKNR for years, first as a Teacher Librarian, then classroom teacher and now mum/teacher.

Allison and Megan bring so much book knowledge, fun, creativity and warmth to their podcast. It has been such a valuable resource as a TL to know the latest quality literature, as a classroom teacher to know what I should be reading to my students and encouraging them to read a wide variety of texts. I have many EAL/D students at my school so it is great to know different texts to ... more

  • Never miss an episode

Love the book mail, recommendations, interviews and the quality waffle. As a YA librarian I find there is always something of interest in every episode and especially like the reviews of new books, for my own reading list as well as for my students. Never miss an episode and highly recommend.

Q: What have you got for us, Tim Winton?
I think everyone dreams, almost everybody dreams. And I think we don't pay enough attention to our dreams.

Q: Why choose this format, data, data, data, as opposed to sort of a picture book narrative or a middle grade novel set there?
It was a way where, in this format, if you have 72 pages, to appeal to the widest possible range of young people.
YKNR 221: 10 minutes with Morris Gleitzman
Q: What sorts of things we can do to arrest the decline in children's reading for pleasure?
I've been on a school tour to encourage young readers to consider the loss of books and promote a varied reading diet.
YKNR 221: 10 minutes with Morris Gleitzman
Q: What are you hoping then that young readers will take away from Childish?
I hope they'll absorb a sense that solving problems involves creative thinking and honesty about oneself in relation to the problem.
YKNR 219: 10 minutes with Kim Rackham
Q: What role does Auslan play in the story?
It was included to reflect the inclusive approach she believes is important, especially as her children's school taught Auslan.
