這是黃土水在 1920 年入選帝展後，接受記者採訪時留下的話。在導演黃邦銓與林君昵眼中，他可說是第一個以藝術為志向、靠藝術來維生的臺灣人，在那個臺灣還鮮有與國際接軌的藝術活動的年代，他帶著行囊遠赴東京，成為臺灣第一位就讀東京美術學校（今東京藝術大學）的藝術家。
這樣一位雕塑家，他第二度入選帝展的大理石雕像作品：甘露水，一尊潔白、靜默的裸女，竟在臺灣沉睡了將近半個世紀，才重新與世人相遇。

1999 年上映的電影《天馬茶房》，是臺灣少數以二二八事件為背景的劇情片。在那個連「二二八事件紀念基金會」都才剛成立、相關研究尚未出土的年代，想拍一部關於二二八事件的電影，簡直像一場在歷史迷霧中摸索的冒險。
最後，《天馬茶房》選擇了一條很特別的路：不直接談宏大的政治事件，而是從一對平凡男女的愛情故事出發，讓歷史在人物的命運中慢慢展開。
