「這聖事只可由司祭(主教或司鐸)施行。」這做法是根基於初期教會的傳統，正如我們前幾天讀過的《雅各伯書》第5章14節所記載：「該請教會的長老們來」。
為什麼要請長老？因為長老更能代表教會團體的臨在，並且體現對病人的關懷。今天這些「長老」就是指主教或神父。

從名字上看，首要條件是「病人」，而且是嚴重的病人。嚴重到什麼程度呢？「開始有死亡的危險時，便可領受傅油聖事。」例如需要接受大手術，或病情非常嚴重，存在死亡的威脅，皆是 合適可領受病人傅油聖事的情況。
那麼，年紀大但沒有什麼大病痛的人，可以領受傅油聖事嗎？有些堂區每年會在長者日舉行集體 病人傅油聖事，但對於年齡、長者的界定並不一致。以香港為例，65歲以上被稱為長者，但很多長者身體健康，不一定需要領受。總的來說，始終是要有生命危險... more
各位兄弟姊妹，今天第315條，問的是：「教會如何對待病人？」
教會是主耶穌基督在世的延續。正如昨天所說，主耶穌在世時醫治了許多殘缺者，作為天國臨近的標記。現在祂離世升天，教會繼續在世延續這使命，我們當然要透過這行動，表達出天國藉著教會臨現於人間。
教會具體的行動包括「照顧病人、陪伴病人、為病人代禱」。照顧病人當然包括實際行動，如幫助不能自理的病人吃飯、提醒他們按時服藥等等。陪伴病人同樣重要，因為我們不常常有具體行動，卻能時常陪伴。尤其病人容易感到孤獨，陪伴正正可以與他們建立關係。

按照「對觀福音」（《瑪竇》、《馬爾谷》和《路加》）的記載，耶穌一開始公開傳道時，祂所宣告「天國臨近了，你們悔改罷」。這句話顯示了天主的愛、天主愛情的統治，藉著這位降生成人的耶穌基督已經臨到人間。因此，人要悔改，就要接受這份愛，以天主的愛來水治理自己、主宰自己的生命。
