「祝聖的餅酒形持續多久，基督的臨在就持續多久。」大家要注意，關鍵在於「形」──餅的形和酒的形。只要仍是餅形和酒形，看起來仍是一塊餅，聞起來仍是酒的味道，並已祝聖，那基督仍然臨在。
因此，通常我們不會保留聖血，因為酒容易變質（變醋），特別天氣炎熱時，要盡快領受基督聖血。至於聖體，也就是麵餅的形象，通常會保留一段時間，安放於聖體龕內或作朝拜聖體。因為餅的形象仍在，基督也就臨在，因為耶穌說：「這是我的身體」──這個餅就是... more

「擘餅並不把基督分開」，因為基督是「整個地、完全地臨在於餅形及酒形內」。不僅是完整的那個麵餅和那杯酒，更是「臨在於每一部分之內」。「每一部分」的意思是祂仍保持餅的形和酒的形。
正如昨日所述，聖體聖血的「質」已經轉變了，已非餅的質和酒的質，而成了耶穌基督的身體與寶血，但這「質」臨在於「形」當中。「形」與「質」毫是昨天提到的希臘哲學：萬物皆由「形」與「質」構成。

「實體轉變」一詞，源自希臘哲學中的「形質論」。希臘哲學認為，世界上的每一樣事物都由「形」與「質」兩個方面組成。
「質」是大家皆相同；「形」則不同，為事物賦予特性。例如水，本質就是水，但若盛在碗裡則成了碗的形狀，盛在瓶子裡則成了瓶子的形狀。換句話說，「瓶子」與「碗」為「水」這同一種「質」賦予不同的「形」。明白這一點後，我們再將這概念套用於聖體聖血裡。
