「私有權的目的是為保障每人的自由與尊嚴」。一個人上班生產、賺取薪水，這私有權落入自己的戶口、掛在自己名下的財產，保障了個人的自由。因為他可以擁有這些錢，只要合法，他喜歡怎麼用就怎麼用，他能夠自由使用財產，便展現出他的尊嚴。他作為人，不受不必要、不合法的限制，只要不傷害到其他人就可以了。
私有權非常重要，不能夠「做又三十六，不做又三十六」，一個人在群體當中欠缺了自己的一份，看不到自己努力的成果，無法享受勞動的收成。 more

私有權必須是以正當的方式來得到的。在落入自己的名下之後，這些財產與物品是怎麼得到的呢？不外乎幾個途徑：
要麼就是憑自己「由勞力取得」。這個勞力不單單是搬搬抬抬，例如上班，很簡單，出糧。出糧就是發到我的名下、入我的戶口，這筆錢就是我的，這是私有的財富，這就是私有權。
又或者是透過餽贈，「由贈予而獲得」。人家送給我的，例如我生日，剛好有人很大方、很慷慨地送了一輛車給我，並過戶給我。

第七誡的內容很簡單，以前稱為「毋偷盜」，現在比較容易明白，叫做「不可偷盜」。為什麼不可以偷盜呢？就是不可以拿取別人的東西，因為要尊重私有權與私產權。既然東西是人家名下的、不是我的，若未經對方同意就拿走或偷取，那就不對了。
為什麼要尊重私有權呢？因為人是按天主的肖像所造的，擁有不可動搖、不可改變的人性尊嚴。要維持與發展這個尊嚴，我們需要一定的物質條件，例如吃東西、穿衣服、居住等，於是便產生了私產權。因此，私有權應該受... more
