There’s more to a book than what’s written on its pages: a book can change the world. In each episode of Writ Large, host Zachary Davis talks with one of the world’s leading scholars about one book that shaped the world we live in—whether you’ve heard of it or not. These conversations go beyond the plot summaries to unpack each book’s context and creation, and reveal its lasting influence on the i... more

Martin Heidegger did not like small thoughts. He was fascinated by the most expansive questions humans can ask themselves. Questions like: Why are we here at all? Why do things exist as they do? What does it mean to be in the world? Heidegger came to... more

The masterful In Search of Lost Time episode took my breathe away. Now I feel like I found the lost time. The depth of the episode brought tears to my eyes.
But so, so, Western-centric. Every now and then we get thrown a bone from the rest of the world, but I wouldn’t recommend it to someone who asked me for a podcast that covered important *world* literature.
Such a wonderful podcast about books, and the life the take after being published to the world. I love how the host allows the guests to speak and share. He listens to the guests, which then allows us to listen. Can’t wait to hear more! Thank you!
Fantastic concept and execution. The books and interlocutors are well chosen. I haven’t found any other podcast like this, which is surprising. I do think that the nudism issue should be addressed, but I personally don’t have a problem with it.
Have only listened to four so far but the analyses have been probing, intelligent and grasping (in a good way) for the elemental in the works. The guests selected have avoided the usual mono-colour of a single perspective (some of Melvyn Bragg’s stuff) or let the “wanted” nuance get in the way. This stuff is a revelation for the many of us who regret dozing through hangovers in lecture halls and wasting the opportunity to understand the importance of the primary sources in their youth.
