These must be some of the least informed people in the aviation environment. Quite clearly no idea.

  • I stopped listening after the Bonza collapse.

For a podcast targeting Australian aviation I would have hoped for insider, informed content. Not just PR release material. I can get that from airline websites. Podcast needs more credible material, less fluff.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Who killed Bonza?
Q: What were the key factors that almost secured an investor for Bonza before funding collapsed?
Tim Jordan explained that a major Australian investor was close to backing Bonza, with term sheets and discussions moving forward, but the funding was pulled by the investor, resulting in the loss of aircraft and the deal.
Bonza's Tim Jordan breaks his silence
Q: Knowing what you know now, what would you do differently if Bonza had a second chance starting April 2021?
Start smaller with used aircraft to prove the model before introducing mid-sized jets, build a stronger Australian ownership base earlier, invest in a robust, proven reservation system from day one, and secure a more consistent and locally grounded investor ecosystem to reduce reliance on a single global partner.
Bonza's Tim Jordan breaks his silence
Q: Do you think Rex's and other airlines' downturns could have been mitigated with different sequencing of events or timing of support?
Yes, if there had been a different sequence of support and asset availability, markets like Bundaberg or Sunshine Coast might have remained served or grown more rapidly. The timing of funding and aircraft availability is critical; without timely aircraft and investor confidence, even strong demand signals can collapse under financial strain and logistical gaps.
Bonza's Tim Jordan breaks his silence
Q: Tim, before the break, what do you think are the main issues facing regional aviation in Australia, particularly regarding the duopoly and the potential for a third operator?
The single largest issue is the duopoly's dominance; there needs to be a pathway for a legitimate third operator to enter and compete, which would push incumbents to innovate and expand routes. Government support and policy changes—such as enabling more flexible charter options, reducing GST on travel to remote locations, and improving financing for regional aircraft—could unlock this, but it requires proactive, sustained action from the government and investors.
Making your manuals automatic
Q: What do you think you've had so much interest from Australia and New Zealand specifically?
These countries have strong commitments to transparency and compliance in aviation practices, which aligns with Web Manuals' solutions.
