In 1961, Norma and Mel Gabler were a quiet couple living in Hawkins, Texas. One day, they noticed some factual errors in their son's school book. What began as a small complaint morphed into a multi-decade crusade to shape what children of Texas — and therefore the country — read in their textbooks. In an election year with raging debates around education, this audio documentary charts how Texas... more

The Bible does not belong in school. No religion does. Christianity has metastasized to a point that they have become what Islam was in the east prior to the collapse of Iraq’s non-extreme government. It’s toxic in its current form and has drowned out the education system from real education using mob rule and scare tactics. I still meet pregrads who either didn’t know or don’t believe the historically accurate story of the Alamo Well put, author.
They are ruining our country. I am fed up with people shoving their religion down our throats. I binged this podcast in 3 days. It’s disgusting how vile their beliefs are.
This podcast is excellent, and this is critical information that the citizens of Texas need to know. The history of Texas education, going back to the 1960s, is a history of a small group of dedicated people calling the shots for the entire state, and in many cases,’the country. Because it should matter to every citizen that our social studies TEKS ha... more
Great podcast!
Can you imagine graduating with honors from a high school in Texas, going to university out of state with a passion to study and teach American history, and finding that you are at a disadvantage because the curriculum in Texas schools is full of parables at best and propaganda at worst?
The facts alone are enough to keep listeners hooked. The Gabler’s made such a strong case against themselves that personal bias was not needed.
I would however give 5 stars for quality! Music, pacing, narration…it was all very well done. But just the facts please…just the facts.
